OMF V8C191 No Need to Be Nervous

When the Palace of War could be seen in the distance, Jing Yi really had mixed feelings. If he could, he rather wouldn’t go there. Instead, he’d have liked to find another way. After all, the person ruling over this palace was Jing He’s uncle. Even though he was a bit more open-minded than Jing He’s father, he still wanted to stay away from these people. Well, he just hoped that he wouldn’t run into the person himself.

On the other hand, Lan Ling was clearly excited. “Oy, do you think we will run into the God of War? Do you think he’ll notice me and ask me to become part of his palace?”

Duan Ming gave him a look. It wasn’t like they hadn’t met the God of War before but that wasn’t how somebody became part of his palace. At the very least not in a high-ranking position.

The Palace of War still had most openings compared to other palaces considering that every so often, they would need to replace the ones who had not made it. Thus, getting into that palace wasn’t too difficult if you just applied at those times.

For the two of them, it would’ve been possible. But the problem was that you would start at the bottom of the pole if you really used that route. And people like them who were either related to the high-ranking gods or had had a special position in their sect in the mortal realm usually weren’t willing to do that.

No, if they took a position, it should be one that matched their previous status. It didn’t need to be that of a heavenly general or anything similarly far up, but at the very least, it shouldn’t be of the lowest rank. Thus, they were waiting for a better opportunity. And that was something that you didn’t just come by this easily.

Duan Ming didn’t bother to answer Lan Ling though and instead paid attention to Jing Yi. He could see that he seemed to feel ill at ease. “Don’t worry about it, brother Zhong. We’re just going to borrow a sword. It’s not that big of a deal. If you have a chance to get your own in the future, you can just return it.”

Jing Yi nodded even though that wasn’t what he was worried about. In any case, it wasn’t like he could tell the truth so it was better to let Duan Ming and the others assume that he was nervous because of this.

Finally, they arrived at the gates, and Duan Ming greeted the guards on duty, introducing himself and stating what they had come for. The guards nodded and waved them inside, clearly having recognized him.

Even though Duan Ming was part of the idle gods’ courtyard, he was still somebody who had some renown in the capital city. For one, there was his mother who was the Goddess of Magnanimity, and then, he had also used the opportunity of some festivals to showcase his skills. Even though it hadn’t gotten him into any of the palaces so far, his name had still become a little better known with time. He was pretty sure that getting a position was just a question of time. And he was patient enough to wait for that.

Duan Ming knew exactly where to go and led the way. While walking, they couldn’t help but realize that there seemed to be some excitement in the air as if something major had happened at the palace or was about to happen.

Lan Ling couldn’t help but look on curiously before he nudged Duan Ming’s side. “What do you think is going on?”

Duan Ming glanced over but didn’t think too much of it. “Maybe there was a case they were working on that was interesting.” He really couldn’t imagine that the heavenly guards would get excited about anything else.

If he had known just how much of a gossip monger the average heavenly guard was, he probably would’ve been certain that he wanted to join the Court of Justice instead. This really was something that Duan Ming would have a problem with.

Lan Ling accepted his explanation and didn’t think about it any further, just following along until they reached their destination.

This was the place where the heavenly guards could go to get everything they needed for their job whether that was their weapons or armor or anything else. The equipment would usually also be allocated to the other palaces here.

For example, if the heavenly officials from the Court of Justice didn’t need the help of the heavenly guards when they went to grab somebody themselves, they might have to use weapons. Handing these out was also the task of the Palace of War.

In short, they were the ones who had the final say when it came to the large-scale use of weapons. Whether somebody had their own personal sword outside wasn’t their problem though unless it was used to do harm. Then, they would naturally step in.

Duan Ming greeted the guard on duty and then motioned toward Jing Yi. “There is a new addition to our idle gods’ courtyard and he will need a weapon for training purposes.”

The guard nodded straightforwardly and then went to note everything down in the book lying to the side, finally turning it around and motioning for Jing Yi to sign it. At the same time, he waved for another guard at the back to get a weapon. “Do you also need a set of armor?”

When it came to the idle gods’ courtyard, they usually didn’t but he still wanted to make sure. If something happened, he didn’t want to be the one responsible.

Duan Ming looked at Jing Yi but he shook his head. He had seen people train in the Yun Zou Sect and outside and he had never seen them wear any armor. There might be some benefit to safety but he didn’t think that he had to worry about that. In any case, he didn’t intend to get into a big conflict. Although … come to think of it, maybe it would be better to have one.

At that time, the guard had already taken back the book though and stored it away again. Jing Yi couldn’t help but feel helpless but also didn’t dare to speak up again. In any case, maybe he could just come back here later on and then ask for one. Just because he hadn’t gotten one right now, that didn’t mean that he could never get one, right?

The guard from the back came over and handed the sword to Jing Yi after making sure that everything else had been handled. “Here you go.

“Thank you.” Jing Yi took the sword, grabbing onto it tightly. Now, he also had a chance to learn. He was definitely looking forward to that.

While he was lost in his own happiness, the guard couldn’t help but lean over the counter. “Say, if you’re from the idle gods’ courtyard, then you probably know more about the ascended deities. Do you know somebody by the name of Leng Jin Yu?”

Duan Ming and Lan Ling exchanged a glance, unable to believe that in a matter of two days, they had already heard that name once again. They had no idea that they were about to hear something even more shocking.
