Yue Lin and Nian Hong Fang actually took the lead in conversing, slowly pulling everyone back into the mood. It probably wasn’t a wonder: At the time when Nian Hong Fang was sent to the Hei Dian Sect as a spy, Yue Lin hadn’t been as busy or at the very least, he hadn’t been as busy with the documents of the division. No, rather than that, he had kept busy with his own studies, as well as with helping the younger disciples, and only a part of the documents had ended up on his own table. That was how they had met.
When Nian Hong Fang originally arrived at the Hei Dian Sect, he had already known quite a bit about alchemy thanks to being taught by the Grandelder of the Yun Zou Sect in secret. Thanks to that, he was soon highly valued and Yue Lin took the time to specifically teach him what he knew. It could be said that they had been quite close.
Later on, Nian Hong Fang left without a word but he had mentioned his feelings for Ma Zhi Wu quite a few times before that so Yue Lin had figured that it might have to do with that and hadn’t looked into it after that. He had simply consoled Ma Zhi Wu when he couldn’t find the person any longer and finally kept his thoughts to himself after Ma Zhi Wu vanished as well.
It had been a long time since then and obviously, there had been some lies involved. But despite that, they managed to get along harmoniously. Well, Yue Lin had long figured out the truth thanks to his position in the Hei Dian Sect, and on Nian Hong Fang’s part, he had always known about the deception. While he felt guilty when they saw each other again originally, that feeling soon left when he realized that Yue Lin didn’t mind.
Ma Zhi Wu watched the two of them but finally couldn’t help but look around and raise his brows. “Actually, what about Niu Hai? I would have expected him to be here as well.” Usually, wherever Yue Lin appeared, Niu Hai wouldn’t be far. To not see him this time was strange.
Jing Yi who had just been talking to Shao Hai and Xiao Dong who were somewhat awkwardly sitting on his other side, looked up when he heard Niu Hai’s name. “Right, how come he is still not back? He wouldn’t have gotten lost?”
Yue Lin smiled wryly. “I was already off to sleep when he ran out so I can’t tell you either. Usually, his sense of direction should be good though and it’s not like this place is easy to overlook. I also don’t know what he is doing out there for so long.”
Jing Yi turned to look at Qiu Ling. “Should we go and look for him?” Anyway, while they had made sure that cultivators weren’t regarded badly in the Long kingdom even after all this time, that didn’t mean that you couldn’t run into trouble in some other way. He’d rather not see that happen to one of his friends.
Qiu Ling gave a hum but didn’t seem too interested in doing that. “I’m sure he’s fine. Anyway, he might not be too strong in comparison to me but I guess he’d be decent among humans.”
“Well, I wasn’t worried about somebody beating him up.” Although then again, maybe he should be. After all, while ‘among humans’ might be the standard in the mortal realm, just looking at the people gathered in this room made clear how that might not be the only thing you needed to consider.
Whether it was Qiu Ling, Xiao Dong, Shen An De, Ma Zhi Wu, or Wu Ya, none of them were human. In fact, only two of them even had some human blood. The others were actual people of the immortal races. And on the human side, they were only two people more since Niu Hai hadn’t arrived yet with him also doubling as an ascended deity who shouldn’t be in the mortal realm either. Considering this, did you really not need to worry about being beaten up when you went out as a mortal cultivator?
Qiu Ling put down his cup and sighed. “Well, I guess if you’re this worried about him …” Anyway, there was nothing he wouldn’t do for his beloved, even if it was looking for a love rival.
Ah, but then … He glanced at Shao Hai who had clearly given up his thoughts on Jing Yi long ago, and figured that that Niu Hai might have smartened up as well. So maybe this wasn’t actually helping a rival in love but just a friend of his beloved’s. He still didn’t really want to leave though.
Qiu Ling thought for a moment and then swiveled around to the person sitting on his other side. “Say, Wu Ya, how about making yourself useful and going to look for that Niu Hai?”
Wu Ya who had still been focusing on Hong Bao turned to him as well and nodded. “Sure, I can do that.” Although, to be honest, he wasn’t sure where to look.
Yue Lin watched them haggle over who should look for Niu Hai and shook his head. “Honestly, I don’t think it’s necessary. He’ll certainly come. Who knows what kept him away? Maybe he met somebody he liked. Back in the Hei Dian Sect, he is constantly going on about how there aren’t any cute juniors.”
Nian Hong Fang couldn’t help but laugh. “Is he still doing that even now? I thought he would have gotten over it by now.”
Yue Lin shook his head. “No, he’s still exactly the same. In fact, he just had his heart broken again. Another one of our alchemy division’s juniors fell in love with another man right in front of his eyes.” He chuckled, clearly not taking it seriously.
Jing Yi was suddenly reminded of something though and couldn’t help but look around oddly. “Now that you mention it … Where is Xiang Yu?”
At that, several people stiffened. It seemed … they had somehow lost the fallen god they had wanted to keep an eye on?
