OMF V8C206 He Was Too Old

Qiu Ling didn’t hesitate. He immediately went over to the Palace of War, looking for Jing He’s uncle. So far, the two of them had usually gotten along so he had some hope that this would work out. If it didn’t … well, either he could try for Jing Yi to sneak out immediately or he could take the God of War along to go and talk with the Heavenly Emperor. Either way, they would figure something out.

As luck would have it, Qiang Yan was currently in his study. When there was suddenly a knock on the door, he glanced up and called out for the person to come inside. When he saw Qiu Ling, he didn’t quite know what to do for a moment. “Did something happen with Jing He?”

Qiu Ling shook his head and walked over, sitting down in front of him. “Not quite. It’s just that there’s something I’d like to discuss.”

Qiang Yan raised his brows but finally leaned back and nodded. “Well, go ahead.” Whatever it was, with Qiu Ling calmly wanting to talk it out, he wasn’t too worried. If it was anything major, he would probably behave differently. At the very least, there shouldn’t be any danger to his nephew.

Qiu Ling kept quiet for a moment before he sighed. “I’m not sure if this will go over too well. This is about Jing Yi.”

Qiang Yan lowered his gaze and then rubbed his neck. “Then why am I being pulled into this? This kind of matter, wouldn’t it be better to talk it over with the God of Justice or the Heavenly Emperor?”

Qiu Ling smiled wryly. He ignored the first part and just focused on the second. “If the Heavenly Emperor and I had a normal relationship, I would certainly go to him. But you also know how he is. And he is definitely not pleased that I’m going after Jing He so that definitely didn’t help in our relationship. Going to him … I don’t need to do that. He would shoot down what I want to say without even bothering to listen to it. I’m coming to you because I think that even though you are also personally involved in this you are able to be more objective.”

Qiang Yan gave another hum and then shook his head. “I don’t think I am objective. Neither are you. But that is a matter of course. I am related to Jing He, you spent a lot of time with Jing Yi. No matter what, every person in this situation has something at stake here. It can’t be changed. I guess it is also alright. We shouldn’t pretend that it is any different. Anyway, I’m willing to listen at least. Let’s see what we can come up with.”

Qiu Ling nodded, satisfied with that promise. He hadn’t expected Qiang Yan to immediately say yes no matter what it was that he brought up. But if he was willing to listen, that was already much better than what he could hope for from the Heavenly Emperor. “Well, I’ll make it short: It has been several weeks. I don’t think that a solution is in sight for either of us. So I think that it is unreasonable to have Jing Yi be confined to this place for much longer.”

Qiang Yan’s brows immediately shot up. “You want him to leave the capital city. That’s not going to work, Qiu Ling. You know that.”

Qiu Ling didn’t respond to that either way and just continued with his own line of thought. “At the current pace, it could be that he would be confined to the Nine Heavens’ capital city for not just several more weeks or months but for years.

“I think that this is too much, even in the current situation. I’m not asking for you to just release him like that. I know that this won’t work. But I’m hoping that we will be able to come to some kind of compromise. That is all that I’m asking for: To give him a chance.”

Qiang Yan rubbed his neck again, feeling that it was a bit of a problem to have this kind of good relationship with his nephew-in-law. Because of this, he was now in a situation where he was asked to make a decision on something like this. That definitely wasn’t fair to him either.

“I know that you see it this way. And I can’t even say that I don’t understand why you see it this way. There is some merit to this. But Zhong Jing Yi has already been given a chance. Originally, he should have been killed at the ascension platform. That that didn’t happen was his chance and it is more than any other ascended deity in his situation gets. He can count himself lucky that he is affiliated with you.”

Qiu Ling naturally didn’t look happy. He had known this. And he had not expected any other answer. He had still wanted to try. And to be honest, now that they were on the topic, he still didn’t think that he should just abandon this. In any case, while Jing Yi could sneak out and go to the dragon realm’s capital city, that would cause a lot of problems. It would be much better if they could indeed come to some kind of compromise.

Thinking for a bit, he finally shook his head. “I understand what you’re saying but I still think that things can’t go on like this. We need some kind of solution. After all, nothing has changed about the curse of the dragons or Jing He’s trial.

“In fact, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad for you to agree to this. Think about it: Save for your guards or some of those heavenly officials killing Jing Yi, is there really much of a danger to him here? But if he went outside with me, then maybe that would be different. Exploring the world can be dangerous. Maybe you would get to your goal faster if you let him go outside.”

Qiang Yan’s lips twitched. If he was any younger, maybe he would’ve been taken in by that but … he was afraid he was a bit too old for this kind of bullshit excuse.
