OMF V8C182 A Bucket of Cold Water

Meanwhile, back in the mortal realm, Hua Lin Yu was finishing telling his brother about what had happened with Xin Lan.

Hua Lin Rong really didn’t know what to do. He felt like facepalming but that wouldn’t bring them any further. He also couldn’t bring himself to scold his little brother for his behavior. He just felt like no matter what he did, it wouldn’t be able to help with anything.

Hua Lin Yu looked at his expression that was still pretty ugly and couldn’t help but lower his head. “Big brother, what should I do now?”

Hua Lin Rong sighed and then just rubbed his forehead, trying to think of what would be the best way to deal with this. In this case, Hua Lin Yu at least hadn’t run away again. Instead, he had just made his fiance run away. It could probably be said that they were even now although his brother had really given Xin Lan a reason while Hua Lin Yu hadn’t had one back then. Or, well, at least not a good one that could be told to Xin Lan if Hua Lin Yu still wanted to marry him.

Thinking for a bit, he felt like this matter could probably be solved. “Well, I don’t think that this is the end. It went a bit out of hand but I don’t think that this means that Xin Lan doesn’t want to marry you.” He wasn’t completely sure where exactly Xin Lan might’ve gone but most likely, he would return after calming down.

Hua Lin Yu pursed his lips, feeling that his brother was really making this sound too easy. “I still don’t get it. In any case, we were just about to get married. It wasn’t even just talking about preparing the ceremony. We would’ve been married after that night. I really don’t understand how he could just run away like that.” He lowered his head and played with the hem of his sleeve, a sour feeling in his heart. “I guess I deserve that for what I did before.”

Hua Lin Rong’s brows twitched. “You still don’t get it, do you?” He was afraid that this was actually the biggest problem. Even if Xin Lan came back, his brother would likely just try the same thing with him again the next time if nobody made sure that he realized what the actual problem was.

Hua Lin Yu looked up, looking quite aggrieved. “What do you mean?”

“Xiao Yu, why do you think Xin Lan is wearing that mask in the first place? It’s clearly not because it’s fashionable. He is hiding something with it and for a man like Xin Lan, this matter has to be something that he is fairly self-conscious about if he goes to that effort.”

To be honest, Xin Lan didn’t strike him as a vain man. He was well-dressed but that was because of his status and his long life that had allowed him to amass quite some resources. He wasn’t the type to put much thought into any details though. A well-made robe was pretty much the only thing he wore and he didn’t even bother to tie back his hair much of the time. Clearly, he wasn’t a man that paid much attention to appearances. To wear that kind of mask … there was clearly more behind that.

“What you did was akin to wanting him to expose something that left a very deep impact on him. And you definitely didn’t choose a good moment for that. He was in a good mood, trying to get married, going forward with your life together. And you basically poured a bucket of cold water over his head. That’s what you did.”

Hua Lin Yu’s head drooped, feeling that if his brother put it this way, it really did sound like something that might make Xin Lan walk out on him. “But it’s not like I don’t know about it. He told me that he got himself quite badly injured before. But I don’t mind no matter how he looks!”

Hua Lin Rong sighed deeply, feeling that it was quite difficult to get through to his brother in this case. “Xiao Yu, this isn’t about how you feel. This is about how your fiance feels. And he clearly doesn’t feel good about it.

“He doesn’t want to show you. Can’t you just leave it at that? Why do you have to see?” To be honest, deep down, he was wondering if maybe Hua Lin Yu was subconsciously looking for something he could find about Xin Lan that would give him a reason to just say no. And if that was the case, then this matter was even worse. Because just imagining how that would have turned out, he was afraid that his little brother wouldn’t survive that.

Rejecting Xin Lan was one matter. Rejecting him after exposing his face on the wedding night was a completely different matter altogether. He didn’t think that that was something that Xin Lan would ever be able to forgive. If Hua Lin Yu even came close to doing that, he was afraid that that relationship would be over forever.

It was just that … even if he said it, he was sure that his brother would just deny it until the very end. And maybe thinking about it, he also didn’t feel like he wanted to do that. But it was difficult to say how he would really react when that moment came.

This whole matter … actually, it might be better if it ended. These two … maybe they just weren’t meant for each other. As much as he regretted thinking that but that was how he felt after everything that had gone down so far. In the end, if they actually got married, Hua Lin Yu might really do Xin Lan a disservice and after all the time they had spent together, he didn’t want for that to happen to him.
