OMF V8C90 Under No Circumstances

Seeing Qiu Ling this early in the morning, Bai Fen was quite surprised. She raised her brows but still waved him inside and offered him a cup of tea. “For you to come by this early, did something happen? There wouldn’t be some kind of breakthrough in regard to Jing He’s trial, would there?”

There was a faint glimmer of hope in her eyes but Qiu Ling smiled wryly. “I’m afraid that’s not the case.”

Bai Fen sighed, feeling slightly disappointed even though she hadn’t really expected another answer. After all, this was something that was bound to take long. If it was a simple matter to solve, the God of Justice would’ve done so long ago. She figured that it would at least take him half a year or maybe even a full year. Thus, right now, her expectations hadn’t been too high even when Qiu Ling came over.

She sat down opposite him, giving him a look. “I still guess that you didn’t just come over like this, did you?” These days, he spent most of his time with Jing Yi. Actually, she was in favor of that. It was best if he was close by to keep an eye on him just in case. After all, while she wanted to have her son back, she would also prefer it if he didn’t need to experience and remember a violent death. As a mother, she just didn’t want him to go through this kind of thing. Especially not if there was some kind of heartache involved because Qiu Ling had failed to protect him. That would really be too vicious.

Qiu Ling cleared his throat, looking a bit uncomfortable. “Promise me that you won’t get angry.”

Bai Fen raised her brows, feeling a little startled inside. “If you start like this, then I feel that I will definitely get angry. How could I occasionally promise you something like that? In any case, just get it out with. How bad can it be?” Even though she said so, she seemed a little tense. She was clearly expecting the worst right now.

Qiu Ling sighed, not quite sure to bring this up. “It’s about Jing Yi.”

The Heavenly Empress closed her eyes, feeling as if her guess had already been confirmed.

Qiu Ling hesitated for a moment longer and then just sighed, putting everything out into the open. “He still has trouble accepting everything. He said that it might help him to if he could understand the situation before he descended to the mortal world better. So he wants to see Jing He.”

Bai Fen’s brows immediately furrowed. “Under no circumstances!” There had never been this kind of situation where a god on his trial would descend and then come to see their original body. After all, they were always killed before that, and even if they somehow managed to escape, they didn’t have the information of where to find their original body.

Now though, one of them had managed to survived because of his specific circumstances and even knew about his original identity, but that didn’t mean that they could allow him to go and see his original body. In any case, that was a very dangerous thing. This Zhong Jing Yi already wasn’t reconciled with the fact that he would die in the future. Naturally, they couldn’t let him get close to Jing He.

Just think about it: He wouldn’t be in this whole situation if there wasn’t Jing He. Who knew if he wouldn’t try to do something to him? That would solve all of his problems at once, leaving him the only person with a body that the soul could stay in. She absolutely wouldn’t leave any kind of opportunity for that.

Qiu Ling shook his head. “Relax. I said no to that as well. I just felt uncomfortable when I tried to imagine it. I also don’t know why.”

“Because you know that that situation might be a little too tempting for him.”

Qiu Ling shook his head. He understood very well what the Heavenly Empress tried to imply but he didn’t believe it. Jing Yi wasn’t that type of person. He was sure of that much. “No, but … let’s not talk about that. In any case, I’m here because I wanted to find some kind of compromise.

“I think Jing Yi just wants to know more. So I wanted to ask if you would be alright with talking to him instead. I know it’s not something you necessarily want but I think that we should try to accommodate him a little at least. Who knows? If he is able to get used to the thought somehow and comes to terms with it, then maybe we will be able to solve this problem.”

Bai Fen definitely wasn’t happy but considering the alternative, she also didn’t dare to say no immediately. “This is something that I wouldn’t even want to consider. But I can see what you mean. In any case, do you know what he wants to know?”

Qiu Ling shook his head. “We only talked about it just now before I came over. I didn’t want to pry too much before I wasn’t sure that there was at least a chance for you to say yes. If you would be willing, I could inquire further though.”

Bai Fen pondered for a moment but then shook her head. “I’m not happy with it and I’m not gladly doing this, you know that. But if this is something that will make him stop having the thought of seeing Jing He, then I will do it. In any case, I also want my child back. If this can help with that at least a little, then I’m willing to give it a try. If it doesn’t help … well, that will be my burden to bear.”

Qiu Ling’s brows slightly furrowed when he heard that. He didn’t want to burden her. He wanted to go back to how things had been before but he also knew that there was no way to do that. He could only hope that things would really change for the better after Jing Yi met with Bai Fen.

He sighed and then got up with a nod. “Then I will tell him and bring him over immediately. I guess the sooner we get this over with, the better.”

Bai Fen nodded. “Do that. But you should warn him that he shouldn’t expect too much. He isn’t my child. Even if he carries Jing He’s soul right now, that doesn’t change a thing.”
