OMF V9C270 He Spoils Them

With the attention finally back on what she had originally wanted to talk about, Fei Bai Mu didn’t lose any time. “I hope you don’t mind if I cut straight to the chase. It has recently come to my attention that my disciple … is here because of a trial.”

Jing Yi’s eyes widened. “A trial? So he … is a trueborn god?”

Fei Bai Mu nodded. “Yes, that seems to be the case. Thus, I wanted to ask if you might have some insight as to how we should deal with his situation.”

Jing Yi furrowed his brows and lowered his head, not sure how to answer this. How to deal with this situation … he didn’t even know for sure how he would have wanted people to deal with his own situation, much less that of somebody else. How could he give any advice?

In the end, he could only sigh. “I’m grateful to know that Sect Master Fei puts so much trust in my knowledge but, honestly, I’m not sure if I can help. My own trial …” He shook his head. “Things weren’t always easy. I’ve wished many times that I simply didn’t know. Being aware of who I originally was and how this life was simply created for his convenience hasn’t been easy. I’ve resented these circumstances a lot.

“Now, I am also facing my own demise because I dared to cultivate but I could gain some more time simply through my association with Qiu Ling. Your disciple is in the same situation but he doesn’t have anyone to rely on like this. So … if you let him cultivate further and he ascends, he will be killed upon sight. You have to know that.”

Fei Bai Mu furrowed her brows. She knew a bit about the immortal realms but this was actually something she had never been aware of. She couldn’t help but look up at Xin Lan.

“It wouldn’t happen.”

Jing Yi looked over there and then remembered that these two were lovers. “Right, with the current research regarding what it means for a god on their trial to be killed if their lover is a dragon, things might be different for him as well. It’s not certain though.”

Xin Lan shook his head again. “No, they won’t kill him no matter who his lover is. Xiao Yu isn’t like you. He wasn’t … simply a trueborn god. At the time he started this trial, he had already fallen. And nobody is crazy enough to release a fallen god back into the world if they can prevent it. The Nine Heaven’s Court of Justice will happily let him live as an ascended deity. In fact, if they know, they might even hand two officials over to him for his protection.”

No matter who it was at the table, they all stared at him dumbfounded. Fei Bai Mu and Ai Hua didn’t have a good grasp on what exactly a fallen god was but they had at least heard rumors. Jing Yi, Xiao Dong, and Shen An De were slightly more familiar with the problem of the fallen gods so they understood the gravity of what Xin Lan was saying.

As for Qiu Ling, he was the one who was most familiar with this situation. After all, as the king of the dragon race — even one that hadn’t always taken his task very seriously — his knowledge in these matters indeed wasn’t lacking. After the initial shock, his mind traveled somewhere else though.

His brows slowly furrowed and he tilted his head, finally giving Xin Lan a disturbed look. “That fallen god … is he that Xiang Yu who …?”

Xin Lan gave him an indifferent look in return. “What does it matter?”

Qiu Ling raised his brows, not sure what exactly to say. After a moment, he finally exhaled deeply and shook his head. “Nothing. It doesn’t matter at all. I just didn’t think your taste was so heavy that you would even hook up with a fallen god!” In fact, the thought was disturbing. The fact that it was very likely Xiang Yu made it a little more palatable though. After all, he had met that one, and despite everything he knew about fallen gods, that Xiang Yu hadn’t seemed that bad.

In fact, he had to admit that Xiang Yu was a bit cute. He was the kind of youth that he hoped his sibling would turn out to be. Having a bit of a temperament was alright but still being obedient overall. That was the impression Xiang Yu had given him. It really wasn’t bad. In a sense, he could see what Xin Lan would like about him.

Xin Lan frowned though. “That’s not the case. I’m not like you who is going after somebody for who they were in another life. I like Hua Lin Yu, not that fallen god. I simply happen to know who he was before because he mentioned it prior to starting that trial.”

At that time, Jing Yi couldn’t help but perk. “Wait! If he was originally a fallen god, then … why is he doing a trial in the first place? I always thought fallen gods wouldn’t need to do something like that.”

Xin Lan merely gave him a bland look. “Because he wanted to. Tian is incredibly partial to the fallen gods. It’s not wrong to say he spoils them. If one of them wants to go on a trial just for the fun of it, you’d better believe he’ll allow them to.”

Jing Yi couldn’t even imagine how somebody could see a trial as fun but then, he also wasn’t the one deciding to go on a trial but the one being the trial so naturally, he would lack that understanding.

On the other hand, Shen An De silently raised his brows and poured himself and his wife a cup of tea. So, Tian, the rumored sovereign of all realms liked to spoil fallen gods. The kind of gossip you could hear when sitting at a table with the king of the dragon race and their race’s probably oldest member … Ah, it sure was interesting.
