OMF V9C205 Acquainted, Actually

As for Fei Bai Mu, her youngest disciple, and that disciple’s lover, they soon arrived at the mountainous region where the Hei Dian Sect was located. Fei Bai Mu motioned for the two disciples to stop and then walked a little ahead, just waiting.

Hua Lin Yu wasn’t sure what was going on. He would’ve liked to ask but he didn’t dare to. Anyway, his Master had said that this was very important. He didn’t want to bother her.

Xiao Li saw what was going on and used the opportunity to lean in closer and cultivate good feelings. “Your Master’s level is very high and so is the level of the Hei Dian Sect’s Grandmaster. He will definitely know that she is here and will come to check it out. I assume he is who she wants to see.”

Hua Lin Yu nodded slowly. “So it was like this. I was wondering why we were coming here and just waiting. I thought it was more of a secret thing.”

Xiao Li looked over to Fei Bai Mu, a little surprised himself. He hadn’t been sure what she wanted to do. He would’ve imagined that if they came here, they would talk to one of the spies the Jian Yi Sect might have planted here but the Sect Master coming herself to do that … that was a bit too high profile.

No, since she was here, he was sure that it couldn’t be just that. She had to have come to see either the Grandmaster or the Sect Master. He wasn’t sure which one it was but it had to be either.

It was surprising though. He wouldn’t have thought that the Sect Master of the Jian Yi Sect and one of the highest-ranking members of the Hei Dian Sect would have any kind of affiliation. But clearly, that had to be the case. There was no way she would be doing this if there wasn’t something established previously.

Xiao Li did not need to wait long to get his answer. Soon enough, two figures appeared about the chasm in the middle of the Hei Dian Sect’s sect grounds where the beguiling night tree was growing.

The two of them landed only a few steps away from Fei Bai Mu and the woman smiled. “Ah Mu, did you come to visit me?”

Fei Bai Mu chuckled and walked over, giving her a hug. “Xiao Ai, I’m afraid I’ll have to disappoint you. This isn’t a mere courtesy call. There is a bit of a problem I’d like to discuss with you and your husband. Well, before that though … Meet my youngest disciple and his … lover.” She motioned behind her and then waved for the two of them to come over.

Hua Lin Yu couldn’t help but be curious. He knew that his Master had a very decent relationship with the Elders in the sect, but he seldom saw her interact with anyone from outside. Now though, it seemed that she and this woman were pretty close.

Fei Bai Mu patted his shoulder and then pulled them in front of her. “This is Hong Ai, you might’ve heard of her. Originally, she was a disciple of the Tian Yu Sect. Then later, she married Grandmaster Shen of the Hei Dian Sect and came here.”

Hua Lin Yu nodded when he heard not just her name but also the sect she had come from, knowing exactly who she was. “I read about you in one of the books from the reading pavilion on our sect! I didn’t know you knew my Master though.”

Hong Ai smiled when she saw him. He reminded her a bit of her younger sister, just that he seemed more well-behaved. “Well, you know how the sects interact with each other pretty often. I had the chance to meet your Master when I was pretty young. She helped me out and since then, we’ve met up every now and then. If you are ever in the vicinity and need some help, you can always come and speak to me.”

Hua Lin Yu nodded, feeling that when this came from the wife of the Grandmaster of the Hei Dian Sect, it really was a favor that he should be grateful for. “Thank you, I’ll definitely keep it in mind!”

Hong Ai laughed and then turned back to Fei Bai Mu. “Well, let’s not stand around here. Let’s go inside instead.”

Fei Bai Mu gave a hum and nodded before turning to Shen An De. “Grandmaster Shen.”

“Sect Master Fei.” Shen An De was also familiar with her although it wasn’t to the same degree. His wife had told him about her relationship with this woman though so his feelings for her were quite positive. A person that treated those he cared about well was naturally somebody he would care about as well. If there was an opportunity to help her, then he would.

Xiao Li watched the whole exchange with doubt, not sure what to think about this. The Sect Master of the Jian Yi Sect … was really unreadable. He had thought he had a good grasp on her but now, it turned out that he didn’t even know half of it. It seemed that, in the future, he would have to be even more careful. Otherwise, he might find himself in trouble. That was something he would like to avoid.

The group of five made their way over to the palace where Shen An De and Hong Ai lived, going to sit in one of the rooms and drinking a cup of tea together. For a while, nobody said a word. It really was as if Fei Bai Mu had only come by to exchange some pleasantries and catch up with an old friend. But then, with the situation at hand, of course, it couldn’t stay like that for long.

Before half an hour had passed, Fei Bai Mu finally put down the cup of tea before turning to Shen An De and giving him a long look. “Actually, Grandmaster Shen might be better equipped to answer this question of mine. I hope you won’t mind listening. If you can’t tell me, I would also understand.”

Shen An De faintly raised his brows but then motioned for her to go ahead. “Sect Master Fei and I might not know each other that well but you and my wife are friends. If there is no risk for my sect involved, then I certainly don’t mind listening and telling you what I know. Please, just tell me what this is about.”

Fei Bai Mu nodded and then launched into the tale of how her disciples had found those secrets in the demonic ancestor’s poisonous herb garden and how, in the end, they had had to return because things seemed too risky.

Watching his expression, it was clear that Shen An De had some thoughts on this matter.
