OMF V9C156 Personal Benefits

Much had happened in the dragon realm since Qiu Ling had contacted An Bai about the matter with Ye Yang. After he cut the transmission to him, he turned back to Jing Yi who was looking at him curiously but also didn’t seem to dare to ask him what was going on.

Qiu Ling weighed the transmission stone in his hand for a moment before he finally put it away and sighed. “The demon realm’s political situation actually has a lot of influence on us.” He knew that he didn’t need to explain but if this between them was supposed to work for a long time, he needed to be more conscious of Jing Yi’s situation. Explaining matters to him that he might not know enough about was part of that.

“We have been at war for a long time but it isn’t a constant struggle. Depending on who is king and how they run the demon realm, there will often only be small skirmishes at the border, or small groups of demons making trouble on their own instead of large, organized battles. The latter is more difficult to deal with and usually results in a lot more victims. So, we naturally don’t want the demon realm to be led by some power-hungry tyrant.

“I don’t personally like Jin Ling but his way of doing things is beneficial to us. So now that somebody is contending for the throne with him, I’m hoping that he can hold on. It doesn’t matter if it’s only barely, but I need him on there for the sake of my own people.”

Jing Yi nodded, having had some guesses about this after listening to Qiu Ling’s talk with An Bai. “And that Ye Yang is somebody who might be able to help with that.”

Qiu Ling inclined his head. “Yes, I don’t know too much but back then, Jin Ling managed to pull some influential figures onto his side who helped him gain the throne back then. Ye Yang was one of them.

“Back then, I paid a lot of attention to what was going on over there. I myself had been king for a while but I didn’t have any of my advisers yet so it was all on me. What happened in the demon realm was of special interest at that time, even more so than it is right now.

“At the moment …” He shook his head. “Well, we would probably be prepared for an all-out war but there will still be a lot of losses on our side as well. If I can, I’d like to prevent that. It’s better for us to support Jin Ling from behind the scenes. No one in the demon realm needs to know other than him and the people who support him like that Ye Yang.”

“Then do you think it will work?”

Qiu Ling wasn’t sure how to answer that. “Depends. Demons are … a bit unsteady. They usually operate on what benefits them the most. For Ye Yang, I don’t think he really cares who is king. Whether it’s Jin Ling or that Yong Hai or whatever he is called, they can’t do anything to him. He is strong enough to flatten either of them if he wants to. A smart person won’t make trouble for such a figure. That would just invite trouble to their own doorstep.

“That is to say that Ye Yang could ignore all of this. He could just find a nice place, settle down, and nobody would bother him. But he already helped Jin Ling once against his opponents. So he must have some kind of interest that aligns with Jin Ling. I’m not sure what that is and I’m not sure if I actually want to know, but I hope that that interest is still there.”

In fact, he had some guesses. If there wasn’t an obvious benefit to doing this, then there should be a more implicit one. And one thing that he knew about Jin Ling was that he had always made very good use of his looks. There was a reason why there were rumors that he had a big harem at home.

That Ye Yang was very likely also interested in him personally and had casually lent a hand in exchange for some private time with him. For a dragon, just the idea was revolting, but he understood where it was coming from.

The problem was that right now, Ye Yang was going after An Bai. It might be because Jin Ling had asked him to do that and Ye Yang still had the hots for him and wanted to make him happy, but it could also be that he was genuinely interested in An Bai.

Even though Qiu Ling was happily in love with Jing He and would never consider anybody else, he also had eyes. An Bai was a handsome man. In the dragon realm, his appearance was top-notch. Somebody like Ye Yang who appreciated beauty might be taken in pretty easily.

So, who knew if his interest in Jin Ling had waned or not? Demons didn’t necessarily mind having several partners at once, so even if he had taken a liking to An Bai, it might not have to mean anything, but if Jin Ling had already lost his appeal to him, they were fucked. Well, he could still try to come up with something else then.

Qiu Ling turned to look at the woman who was still going through the jade slips, and wondered how long this could actually take. This matter for Xin Lan, after it was solved, that old guy might come in handy. After all, back then, Xin Lan had supported Jin Ling as well. Maybe he would be willing to go back there and do the same again. He himself couldn’t ask him but if Jinde was the one who brought it up, he might consider it. For that, they first needed to solve this matter though.

It only took a few more minutes before the woman put down the next jade slip and turned to them, inclining her head. “Your Majesty, I have been able to find the relevant information. Do you want me to bring you over? Or should I get the object in question and bring them over here?”

Qiu Ling gave a hum and then motioned back into the room. “Let’s go together.” Either way, it probably wasn’t good to move these things too much. If they were what they needed, he’d directly put them in his spatial ring, and then carry them back to Jinde.

Although, he really hoped that they hadn’t gotten fragile to the degree where they couldn’t be moved even a little. Because then, he didn’t think that Jinde would be able to use them to actually refine anything. After all, refinement used a lot of spiritual energy. The kind of power that was generated in a furnace, it could easily blow a person to pieces.
