RMN C366 Leaving Again

Mei Chao Bing nodded. If it had been in the past, maybe he wouldn’t have cared as much and his only concern would have been to restore his reputation. But now that there was Yun Bei Fen, he also didn’t want to leave him. Even though he had his Master and his three senior martial brothers, he knew that he would miss him. As such, he had to be careful as much as he could.

“Don’t worry, Elder Baili. I will do my best to stay safe. I definitely won’t seek any confrontation. This is just for the case that there is no other way around it. Now, I don’t think we should lose any time.” Saying so, Mei Chao Bing rose to his feet and cupped his fists. “The Elders will need a moment to write the reports for Sect Master Zhang. I hope it is alright for me to go and bid farewell to Fen’er in the meantime.”

The Elders waved, and then immediately got to their task while Mei Chao Bing walked outside. Just as Elder Baili wanted to put the brush to the paper, he couldn’t help but think of something though and called out to him again. “Mei Chao Bing, when you’re going back, ask Young Shen for the reports he was supposed to deliver to the Sect Master.”

Mei Chao Bing froze when he realized that that report had never made it back to the sect because of the ambush, and inclined his head. “I will do.” Then, he closed the door behind him and returned to the Baili’s courtyard, where he went to the room of Shen Lei and Luo Lin.

Seeing him back, Yun Bei Fen who had been sitting next to his third senior martial brother immediately got up and rushed into his arms. “You’re back!”

Mei Chao Bing leaned down and gently kissed his cheek. “Only for a moment, I’m afraid. The Elders want me to deliver an updated report to the sect.” Saying so, he turned to look at Shen Lei. “Senior martial brother Shen, might I ask you for the report you originally were to send over? I would take those along as well.”

Shen Lei nodded and grabbed his spiritual bag, pulling out the papers. He looked them over and then sighed. “It could be that part of those got damaged in the attack. You should have the Elders look them over before you set off.”

Mei Chao Bing grabbed the report and inclined his head. Then, he turned back to Yun Bei Fen who wasn’t looking all that happy. Seeing this expression, he couldn’t help but feel his heart soften. “I know you don’t want me to go but somebody has to inform the sect. And right now, I seem to be the safest option because we believe that my Master still needs me. So I likely won’t be attacked like the others.”

Yun Bei Fen furrowed his brows. He might not know enough to be able to help everyone figure things out, but he was smart enough to hear the critical point in Mei Chao Bing’s words. “Likely isn’t for sure though. What if something happens to you?”

Mei Chao Bing sighed. That was a risk that they had to take. It was also a risk that he was willing to take but it wasn’t easy to tell that to Yun Bei Fen. For a while, he just searched for the right words. But in the end, he could only sigh. “We don’t really have another choice. We need to inform the sect of our conjectures. And we need some information from the sect as well, so somebody has to go.

“Since I am the safest option, this is what has been decided. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of myself.” He reached up and brushed through Yun Bei Fen’s hair, feeling a bit guilty. He might say that it ‘had been decided’ but he knew very well that he had volunteered to do this. Clearly, at that moment, he hadn’t thought of Yun Bei Fen. But as much as he loved him, he couldn’t not do this. No, there were just some things that had to be done. With time, Yun Bei Fen would also realize that.

Well, Yun Bei Fen might not be able to get the full scope of this matter but with his blind trust in Mei Chao Bing and his skills, he had absolutely no problem seeing why the Elders might want to send him. Thus, even though he was personally unhappy, he kind of felt like he understood this decision. Anyway, in his eyes, there was nothing that Mei Chao Bing couldn’t do, so if this task really was that difficult, then of course, he was the one who would be sent to take care of it.

He hugged Mei Chao Bing’s waist, feeling that it really was a pity. He had thought that while they were in the border region, they would have a chance to be together all the time but now, that wasn’t the case. Instead, it felt like they hardly saw each other.

Mei Chao Bing leaned down when he saw Yun Bei Fen’s depressed look and hugged him tightly. “Don’t worry. I’ll be back soon enough. I’ll rush to the sect as fast as I can and also rush back just as fast. So it’ll all depend on how fast the Sect Master Zhang is.” He tilted his head and kissed Yun Bei Fen’s cheek before finally pulling back. “Alright, I’ll go and give the old report to the Elders to check and then leave in a few moments.”

Yun Bei Fen nodded reluctantly but still grabbed Mei Chao Bing’s hand. “Then I’ll come with you to say goodbye.”

Mei Chao Bing nodded and then looked up at the others, bidding farewell to them as well. After that, he pulled Yun Bei Fen out of the room, and went back to Elder Xing’s courtyard, handing the old report to the Elders.

They checked them over, after having just finished the new report, and wrote another letter with a sigh, detailing everything that had been mentioned in the parts that had been destroyed. “Thankfully, most of it was still readable. Well, you can take these back to the sect now. Just tell the Sect Master everything from your own perspective if he doesn’t understand something.”

Mei Chao Bing nodded and took the reports, putting them into his spiritual bag. Then, he turned back to Yun Bei Fen and leaned down, tilting his head for another kiss. “Alright, I’m off then. Stick to your first senior martial brother and senior martial brother Shen. They’ll make sure nothing happens to you until I come back.”

Yun Bei Fen nodded fervently and then watched as Mei Chao Bing walked out of the door, worried about when he would finally get to see him again.
