Mei Chao Bing finished planning how Yun Bei Fen’s sword should be forged and put away the scroll. There was no use pondering about this any longer. Thanks to the high-profile manner in which they had appeared today, they would be under constant surveillance from the other disciples for the next few days. Most likely, the other Elder that had come to the border region would also have to say a few things about how they had been delayed for so long. There was no way for him to just leave this town without having to answer a few questions.
When Mei Chao Bing thought of that, he couldn’t help but furrowed his brows. Actually, even if he waited a while, it was very likely that things wouldn’t be so easy. One of the people on the other side might be his Master. Everyone would be skeptical about him. Even if Elder Baili trusted him, the other Elder might not do so and might have some disciples observe his movements. And even if not … Continue reading
Yun Bei Fen perked up. Right! Senior martial brother Mei had promised to make a sword for him. He had completely forgotten about that after everything that had happened with Xiao Hui and Da Hei. He grabbed onto his sleeve with sparkling eyes. “You really want to make my sword now?”
Mei Chao Bing chuckled and pulled him onto his lap. “Well, I can’t forge it right here but we will have to plan it first anyway.”
Even though his first senior martial brother cared about swords a lot, Yun Bei Fen didn’t know about them too much. At the very least, he didn’t really know how a sword was being made. “So what exactly do we need to plan? Is it something I can help with?”
“Well, is there something that’s important to you? I mean what kind of sword would you like?” Continue reading
Yun Bei Fen clung to Mei Chao Bing’s arm and the two of them went to find rooms. The courtyard that Baili Chao had occupied wasn’t big. There were five rooms in total, more than enough for them but not too much if one considered that Baili Chao was an Elder of a prominent sect. Well, the city wasn’t big easier so this was probably the best they could give. Furthermore, the other Elder should have more disciples accompanying him so it was likely that he would have gotten a bigger courtyard.
Mei Chao Bing chose two rooms that were close to each other so that his little bunny would be able to run over whenever he wanted. When he motioned to the other room, Yun Bei Fen’s expression sank though. Mei Chao Bing raised his brows. “What? You don’t like that one? You haven’t even had a look.”
Yun Bei Fen tugged at his sleeve. “Can’t we share a room?” Continue reading
Baili Shao looked at Mei Chao Bing and harrumphed. “You sure took your sweet time.”
Mei Chao Bing nodded, outright admitting his mistake. Even though Yun Bei Fen didn’t talk about his Master that often, it was obvious they had a good relationship. If he argued with him now, that would only cause problems. “I’m sorry to disappoint you, Elder Baili.”
Baili Shao sighed and waved. “Let’s not talk about that. Come on in then. Let’s go to the study where the brat can’t hear us.” He turned around and walked into the house, bypassing Yun Bei Fen who was still standing behind the door, staring at it with wide eyes as if he had been trying to make the sounds appear as words in front of him.
Mei Chao Bing looked at the little bunny and couldn’t help but reach over while he walked past him and ruffle his hair. “Don’t worry about it,” he whispered before continuing to follow Baili Chao. He closed the door when he entered into the study and then stood in place, waiting for the Elder’s verdict. Continue reading
The righteous faction’s camp was actually part of a small city in the border region. Several big courtyard houses had been emptied out and given to the cultivators that were taking part in this mission.
Even though Mei Chao Bing and Yun Bei Fen hadn’t been there when the Teng Yong Sect’s people moved in, Mei Chao Bing had no trouble finding where they were. The people normally living in the city were mortals that had never cultivated. Thus a cultivator could perceive their lack of spiritual energy, making it easy to find the place where the disciples were staying. As for finding the Elder … It hadn’t been too long since he saw Baili Chao so he still had a good measure of how powerful he was. Judging from that and thanks to the fact that Elder Baili had done nothing to suppress his cultivation stage, he could just go straight up to the door of the courtyard where he was staying.
Mei Chao Bing cupped his fists and bowed even though the door was still closed. “Greetings, Elder Baili. This is Mei Chao Bing. I’ve brought Yun Bei Fen over.”
Inside the room, Baili Chao’s brows twitched. Mei Chao Bing! That brat actually dared to show up here?! He leaped to his feet and rushed to the door, pushing it open and glaring at the person outside. Continue reading
They had already spent a lot of time in the forest and later in the valley so Mei Chao Bing didn’t take another break to teach Yun Bei Fen more and just directly flew to the border region, stopping only when they reached the camp of the righteous side.
The disciples that were outside to train their sword arts or cultivation techniques looked up and started to whisper to each other. Obviously, Mei Chao Bing’s arrival hadn’t gone unnoticed.
“Senior martial brother Yang, look there! It’s actually that Mei Chao Bing.”
Yang Wu Huang harrumphed. “Don’t bother about him. He’s just the disciple of a traitor. Why should we care about him?” Continue reading
With two spiritual beasts following them now, Yun Bei Fen and Mei Chao Bing finally continued on their way. Mei Chao Bing made them walk slowly to the other end of the valley, letting Yun Bei Fen look further for spiritual herbs and other things they could take with them. Because of this, it turned out that they had actually made a good decision in taking in these two spiritual beasts.
While Xiao Hui didn’t have much value in terms of fighting strength, it was great at finding spiritual herbs. As soon as Yun Bei Fen put it down on the ground, it would hobble in the direction of the closest herb. The only important thing was to make sure they were able to pick the herb before the spiritual beast started gnawing at it.
Yun Bei Fen didn’t worry about it too much. If it was his decision, then he might have actually allowed Xiao Hui to eat all of them. Mei Chao Bing intervened though. It was still alright to let Xiao Hui eat them if the stalks were of lower quality but the others should be picked and kept safe by them. First of all, the little spiritual beast wouldn’t be able to digest a herb that had too much spiritual energy because it was just not strong enough yet and secondly, it would be a waste to let these herbs be eaten. No, it was better to keep them for now. If Xiao Hui turned out to be able to level up soon, then they could still give it the herbs, otherwise, it would be better to use them for something else first and find others for it to eat later. When Mei Chao Bing arrived, Yun Bei Fen was already lying on the ground, the little bunny Xiao Hui shivering just an arm’s length next to him. In front of the two of them stood a spiritual beast, its growl reverberating through the meadow. It was a huge wolf with black fur that glinted even in the cold moonlight.
Mei Chao Bing raised his hand and his spiritual energy rushed out. The wolf noticed it and jumped aside, evading it with yet another growl. Mei Chao Bing gritted his teeth. Judging from the way it had evaded, he would be able to defeat this thing but he had to be fast or it would pounce on Yun Bei Fen first. After all, eliminating one threat before concentrating on the fight with the other was always better when even a small distraction could lead to death. Continue reading
Mei Chao Bing and Yun Bei Fen stopped in the middle of the valley to rest for the night. By now, Yun Bei Fen had learned to sense spiritual energy rather well and was even able to use it to make his sword raise into the air even though he still couldn’t fly on it. He also had a spiritual beast albeit he had chosen one that would be rather useless for defending him. This was probably as much as he could do in preparation for their time in the border region. After this night, they should finally make their way over to the gathering place.
Mei Chao Bing looked at his little bunny that was currently teasing Xiao Hui with a long blade of grass that he had picked at the roadside. It seemed his little bunny was having fun. Mei Chao Bing got up when he had managed to make a fire and went over to leave a kiss on Yun Bei Fen’s forehead. “I’ll go and find something to eat for us. Will you be alright for the time being?”
Yun Bei Fen looked up and nodded. “Mn, don’t worry about us. Xiao Hui and I will just wait here for you.” Continue reading
Mei Chao Bing carefully guided his little bunny in forming the contract with … well, the other little bunny. In fact, this matter of signing a contract wasn’t too complicated. In short, the cultivator only had to use their spiritual energy and leave a mark of the spiritual beast’s head. This type of beast had already formed a spiritual awareness that would be able to accept the mark if they wanted to form a contract. If the mark was rejected, then no matter how much the cultivator tried, they wouldn’t be able to sign the contract successfully. But if it was accepted, then they would be bound together from now.
The only difficult part about this was to show Yun Bei Fen how to use the spiritual energy to leave the mark. For him who had only learned how to use this energy for anything else than taking it in and cultivating in the last few days, this was difficult. Naturally, he wasn’t able to do it immediately.
