Yun Bei Fen and Mei Chao Bing trained until late in the evening. They lay down at the side of the clearing afterward, once again huddled closely together for the night. They didn’t leave there for the next few days either and instead continued to train until Mei Chao Bing was sure that Yun Bei Fen was able to sense the spiritual energy in his surroundings from the moment he woke up without impairing his other senses. Only then did he suggest to continue on their way toward the border region.
He didn’t feel that he had done enough to make sure that Yun Bei Fen would be alright but it was already much better than a few days ago. At the very least, his little bunny would be able to notice a smaller threat before it arrived. For now, that had to be enough. He’d just let him slowly gain more experience while they traveled.
Thus Yun Bei Fen once again happily tagged along with Mei Chao Bing. After a few more days of being a couple, he was much less nervous and eagerly clung to Mei Chao Bing’s sleeve, tugging at it whenever he saw something interesting. Continue reading
Yun Bei Fen clung to Mei Chao Bing’s shoulders, took a deep breath and cracked his eyes open. He could do this! He definitely wouldn’t disappoint senior martial brother Mei! It couldn’t be that hard. He had managed to cultivate until he established his foundation, after all. He knew about spiritual energy and could even take it in. This was just distinguishing the levels of the spiritual energy like Mei Chao Bing had explained to him. Nothing more! He could definitely do that!
Yun Bei Fen focused on the person in front of him, ignoring everything else around them. He could see light around Mei Chao Bing as if he was shining from inside. Senior martial brother Mei had already formed his core several years ago so the energy he gave off was very strong. If he could sense spiritual energy of that level … he should be safe in the border region, shouldn’t he? If somebody even stronger came, then there was no way for him to flee or fight anyway. Not that his chances to escape would be very high if his opponent was of the core formation stage.
Yun Bei Fen looked around but he was only blinded by all the energy around them again. He groaned and hurriedly hid in Mei Chao Bing’s arms again. Continue reading
Mei Chao Bing didn’t get an answer. A certain little bunny was completely immersed in cuddling with him. In the end, he could only sigh, grab him by the shoulders and gently pry him off. He turned him back to the hole in the ground and stepped to the side.
“Alright. Let’s try again. You have to focus and try to sense the danger. With a bit of time and practice, you’ll be able to do so from a larger distance. That way, the risk of running into something you can’t handle will be reduced by a lot.”
Yun Bei Fen looked at him with wide eyes. Why was senior martial brother Mei suddenly distancing himself? Had he done something wrong? Continue reading
Yun Bei Fen took a cautious peak but couldn’t see anything. Other than the vine that Mei Chao Bing had hacked off, everything still looked as enchanting as before. He looked back at Mei Chao Bing. “What do you mean?”
“You can’t see it?”
Yun Bei Fen glanced at the ground again and shook his head. “There’s just some grass and flowers and … and that’s it?”
Mei Chao Bing took a deep breath. How come Elder Baili had thought it was a good idea to bring this little bunny along on a mission that involved demonic cultivators? Never mind his low cultivation base, he couldn’t even see what was wrong! If he didn’t have a very special talent …
He leaned down and peered into Yun Bei Fen’s face. “Fen’er, be honest with me, could it be you have a rare talent for feigning death?”
“So that wasn’t it.” Mei Chao Bing raised his brows and straightened up again. In that case, he wouldn’t have a lot of time for romance with his little bunny. They’d need to train as much as they could if they wanted to make sure that Yun Bei Fen would be safe, more or less.
“Senior martial brother Mei, just what …”
“Senior martial brother Mei …” Yun Bei Fen furrowed his brows but he could only helplessly look up at the branches swaying above him in the air. He didn’t know what exactly had happened to him and he couldn’t look either because he wasn’t even able to lift his head.
He took a hurried breath and tried to wriggle his arms. Something had coiled around them and when he moved, it tightened even further. Yun Bei Fen fearfully widened his eyes. “Senior martial brother!”
At the side, Mei Chao Bing’s lips twitched. Yun Bei Fen wasn’t even trying to fight that plant spirit. Just what was he doing there? Had Elder Baili not taught him what to do in such a situation? No, wait, had he taught him how to fight at all?!
Yun Bei Fen continued to wriggle around on the ground in the hope of somehow getting out of the clutches of whatever had caught him. Unfortunately, his effort had the opposite effect. His body was wrapped up tighter and tighter.
Yun Bei Fen anxiously whimpered. “Senior martial brother Mei!” Continue reading
Yun Bei Fen and Mei Chao Bing leisurely walked through the forest. Or, well, Mei Chao Bing walked leisurely. Yun Bei Fen walked next to him at first but then he felt that it wasn’t too appropriate. He slowed down his steps until he walked half a step behind Mei Chao Bing.
This should be alright, shouldn’t it? He glanced up at him but … now he couldn’t even see his face. Ah, his senior martial brother was still very handsome! The way his black hair fell down that straight back …
In the front, Mei Chao Bing’s lips twitched. This little bunny … What was he thinking about? It felt as if he was trying to strip him with his gaze … He glanced over the shoulder and found Yun Bei Fen stare at him with big eyes. The little bunny was so absorbed in his thoughts that he didn’t even notice that the person in question had turned to him. Continue reading
Yun Bei Fen finally fell asleep in Mei Chao Bing’s arms. When he woke up the next day, the sun had already risen. Mei Chao Bing’s eyes were long open but he had stayed still and only gazed at the little person in his arms so that he could rest a while longer.
Yun Bei Fen looked up and smiled. “Senior martial brother Mei …”
“Mn. Good morning.”
“Did you sleep well?”
Mei Chao Bing’s lips curled up in a smile. This was the first time somebody had asked him such a question. He didn’t remember his family very well and his Master had always been taciturn. Who else would have bothered? But for Yun Bei Fen it seemed natural as if it was the most normal thing to ask somebody how they had slept when you saw them in the morning. To be honest, he could get used to this. Continue reading
Mei Chao Bing patiently answered every one of Yun Bei Fen’s questions until his little bunny failed to come up with any new ones. His lips curved up into a smile and he rubbed Yun Bei Fen’s head. “Is that all you want to know?”
Yun Bei Fen’s gaze flitted from one side to the other. He wanted to ask more but he couldn’t come up with anything. Thus he could only nod.
“Does that mean it’s my turn to ask questions now?”
Yun Bei Fen stiffened. It couldn’t be that senior martial brother Mei had found out that he had been asking around about him, could it?! Then would he feel that he was being nosy or bothersome?
Seeing the little bunny look spooked, Mei Chao Bing couldn’t help but reveal a helpless smile. Just what was he supposed to do? He just wanted to know a little more about the person he liked. Was that really such a strange thought? “Fen’er …”
“It’s not that I did it on purpose!” Continue reading
Yun Bei Fen looked up at Mei Chao Bing and his cheeks flushed pink. Ah, so this was what being in a relationship was like! It was even better than he had imagined! He happily snuggled up against Mei Chao Bing’s chest, making him freeze.
Uh … It seemed he had thought too much? Yun Bei Fen was obviously alright with this. Mei Chao Bing sighed and stroked Yun Bei Fen’s back. “Fen’er, do you mind if we take a few days to go to the border region?”
Yun Bei Fen shook his head. “Of course not! It’s much more important that senior martial brother can restore his strength!” He looked up at him with worship in his eyes. Ah, senior martial brother Mei …
Mei Chao Bing sighed lightly. He regretted his lies a bit. With how Yun Bei Fen looked at him, he probably wouldn’t have needed to do that. Just landing and telling him honestly should have been enough. Well, it was too late now. “Since we’re here already … Should I advise you on your cultivation?” Continue reading
Yun Bei Fen happily held onto Mei Chao Bing’s hand and followed him through the forest, not paying attention to their surroundings at all. Ah, if he could decide, then they could take some more time to find their way out of this forest. Couldn’t there be one of those arrays here that made people go in circles for a very, very long time until they figured out that something was wrong? Then they could stay here for several weeks without having to go to the border region!
Mei Chao Bing looked at the little bunny that was staring up at him and smiled. “Is something the matter?”
“Do you think there’s an array here?”
“Haven’t you heard about those arrays that trap people inside them?”
“Oh, these arrays.” Mei Chao Bing rubbed Yun Bei Fen’s head. “Don’t worry about that. Even if there was one, I could get us out of it. Nothing will happen to you while you’re with me.”
