The two of them stared at each other and Leng Jin Yu finally cleared his throat. There really was no reason to make this any more complicated than it already was. There was something very specific that Qiu Ling and Zhong Jing Yi wanted to know. Rather than being bogged down in endless questions of what was and why it would be much better to just answer these questions and let everything else be solved with time. “Well, I can tell you what I know. Please keep in mind that I only spent a short amount of time there though. So the amount of information I can give you is limited.”
Qiu Ling didn’t seem to think much of it and just gave a faint hum before he pulled Jing Yi closer, letting him talk to Leng Jin Yu. Even though he understood very well just what the other man was trying to do, he just couldn’t help but stop feeling strange about this whole matter. Maybe Leng Jin Yu could see things differently because he had already been reincarnated in the meantime but he was still the very same person who had lost his father back then and then once again not too long ago. It really wasn’t as easy for him.
Jing Yi who still didn’t understand what exactly was going on between Qiu Ling and Leng Jin Yu just focused on the matter at hand. “It really doesn’t matter. I just want to know a couple of things to get started. I’m sure that I can go myself from there.”
Leng Jin Yu nodded. “In that case, I would suggest going to the courtyard of the idle gods. That is where I was sent after ascending.”
Jing Yi nodded, feeling that this was already quite good. “I got it. May I ask what type of place that is?” Even though he had read up about the Nine Heavens and also a little about the capital city, the amount of time hadn’t been enough by far. There were still a lot of things that he had no idea about. That courtyard of the idle gods was one of them.
Leng Jin Yu slightly furrowed his brows, wondering just how to say it. “Well, for the trueborn gods, they spend their whole life in the Nine Heavens. If they show promise, they might have the chance to join one of the palaces in the capital city after they come of age. They will have an official position with some kind of title. The most well-known positions would be the ones of the gods leading these palaces like the God of War for example. They are those who will usually be referred to as the titled gods. But actually, it isn’t wrong to say that those who are working for them also hold a title even though it is one that is much less important in the grand scheme of things. But those that have joined the Palace of War will hold the title of Heavenly Guard or the members of the God of Medicine’s temple will be Heavenly Physicians. Those are titles as well.
“Some of the trueborn gods that want to go to a specific palace but haven’t gotten an offer yet will go to the courtyard of the idle gods that I mentioned. They will use the time there to further their studies and might apply again later. Of course, there are also some who just want to freeload without working for it.
“Now, an ascended deity that doesn’t want to settle down just anywhere or also has designs on a specific place will go to this courtyard as well. It is basically a place where you can keep to yourself to learn more or converse with others in the same situation to gain some experience and more knowledge. If the palaces are looking for somebody else to employ, they will usually look there first so that would be your chance to gain an official position.”
Jing Yi nodded but he had some doubts in his heart. “I’m not quite sure if anybody would take me in my situation.”
Leng Jin Yu’s gaze softened at that. Maybe it was because he had also needed to battle with the knowledge of having been somebody else before but he could very well understand just how Jing Yi had to be feeling and how torn up he had to be about this whole situation. “I really doubt that anyone of those involved would be speaking much about your situation. To most, you are just a normal ascended deity.
“So I’d say just try your luck. And even if you can’t make it into any of the palaces, you will at least be able to meet some new people. The gods and deities in the courtyard are usually a hard-working bunch. Surely, there will also be an odd case there every now and then of somebody who comes from a family that has high expectations for them but can’t fulfill them but you might be more interested in getting along with the ascended deities anyway and they are naturally hard-working. Otherwise, they never would’ve made it there.”
Jing Yi nodded, feeling that it made sense. For most people, cultivating took not only a lot of time but also a lot of effort. He himself was probably an odd case in that regard. His cultivation had been guided by a lot of luck thanks to the fact that he not only had had Qiu Ling’s help at the beginning but then was imprisoned in the Leyuan region’s dimension for a few years before he even spent some time in the demon realm and in the High Heavens.
If not for these things, he probably never would’ve been able to ascend to the Nine Heavens in just a little more than a millennium. That kind of thing was unheard of in the mortal realm. Even if somebody was able to do something like that, they would have to be a rarely seen genius that barely existed once in a million years among millions of people. And those cultivators would usually also have a special constitution.
As for him … Well, it stood to reason that in this life, he never should’ve been able to ascend albeit not for his lack of trying. He had just been extremely limited by his own constitution.
Leng Jin Yu could somewhat guess what was going through his mind and smiled. “Don’t take it too hard. You ascended because you put in the effort. Even luck can’t carry you through everything. You used the opportunities that were given to you. If you had just been sitting around in the dimension back then or not done your best the rest of the time, you also wouldn’t have gotten this far.
“So don’t beat yourself up over it. Just go there, see how things go, and then see about the rest. From my experience, the people there are quite nice. You probably won’t have any trouble striking up a few friendships.” He pondered for a moment and then his expression lit up. “Right, when you go there, you can look for Duan Ming and Lan Ling. It’s been a few years in the Nine Heavens now but maybe they are still there. Back then, we were all in the courtyard of the idle gods together. You can tell them that you know me from my mission in the mortal realm. You don’t have to tell them anything else if you’re not comfortable with that. But I am sure they would take care of you if the opportunity arises.”
Jing Yi smiled when Leng Jin Yu actually offered something like this and nodded. “I will look for them.”
“Well, then what else do you want to know?”
Jing Yi pondered but finally shook his head. “I don’t think there’s anything. I just wanted to know where to go from here. Since I know now, I don’t think there is anything else I need to know for now. I will go to the courtyard of the idle gods and then just see from there just like you said. If something else comes up, I’ll ask the people that I got to know there or we can just contact you again if you won’t mind.”
Leng Jin Yu shook his head and couldn’t help but glance at Qiu Ling who was still standing next to Jing Yi. “Of course not. We are … family after all.”
