Hearing this, Jing He looked forward to it as well. He had known Qiu Ling for a while but life in the Nine Heavens could be considered boring in how repetitive it was. He indeed hadn’t seen much of his husband’s habits outside of the little he showed during those moments. There had been quite a few surprises but thinking back to his trial, he had seen a lot more of his behavior at that time.
If they were to travel together now, when he had all his memories and the understanding of a trueborn god … there would be so many things he could experience with Qiu Ling that would have been impossible to do before. Of course, he would cherish such an opportunity.
Jinde smiled at the excitement on Jing He’s face. Even though it seemed that this child was still trying to somewhat subdue it, a lot of it still showed through. It was endearing. If Qiu Ling could see this, he’d melt at once.
Thinking of his son, Jinde glanced at the door but nothing could be heard of him yet. It seemed that there still was a little time before he finished his business with that General Min Jun. Well, that was just right to give his husband a little more advice. “You don’t have to worry about what else to know.
“Since Qiu Ling is knowledgeable about these things, he’ll explain to you when the time comes and show you directly. It’s much easier to understand that way instead of just hearing it when the occasion is still far away. After all, I don’t think you’ll set off that soon. Knowing Qiu Ling, he’ll want to enjoy married life at home for some time and take the opportunity to show off.”
Jing He looked at his father-in-law in a daze. Show … off? What would Qiu Ling show off?
Jinde really laughed this time. “Show off about being happily married and having a beautiful, kindhearted, well-educated spouse that everyone will envy him for. Don’t look at his serious face in front of you. Most dragons who find their other half get incredibly smug about it and can’t stop bringing it up, especially shortly after their wedding.” It really made other people want to give them a beating. Those dragons were all too enviable. Well, admittedly, he was one of them now and he had certainly done the same in the past so … he really had no right to complain.
Jinde smiled to himself as he thought of his husband who was still accompanying Jing He’s family. “Well, it’s normal. Being that much in love, who can bear not talking about their spouse proudly, and who can bear to be separated? Just wait for Qiu Ling to finish the most pressing matters and you’ll see that he will stick to you without a moment’s rest. I hope you won’t find him annoying yourself when the time comes.”
Between dragons, this type of behavior was normal so with very few exceptions neither side would take offense. But Jing He was a trueborn god and one with exceptionally thin skin. Who knew if he could bear it? A day or two certainly wouldn’t be an issue but Qiu Ling was crazy about this person even after such a long time. Jinde didn’t doubt for a moment that he would get embarrassingly clingy going forward. At that time, Jing He might feel rather helpless.
Jing He couldn’t imagine such a thing happening. “If my husband is able to spend more time with me, I will naturally be glad. I only hope that I won’t keep him from his duties.”
Jinde chuckled. “If you’re worried about that, just promise you’ll sit next to him quietly while he works. You’ll see that he’ll stop making excuses at once.” Even his Master had often been accompanied by his wife despite the fact that he wasn’t as obviously attached to her as Qiu Ling was to Jing He. If such a person could cling to their spouse, it said a lot about what would be happening in the palace soon, didn’t it? Well, if it really got too much, he’d quietly go and save Jing He. Qiu Ling still listened to him, after all, and he was more assertive than Jing He.
Jing He hurriedly shook his head. He wasn’t worried about that at all. Qiu Ling was such a conscientious person and he cared deeply for his people. He’d definitely fulfill his duties. He was just afraid that because he was the same way as a lover, he might feel torn about leaving him behind too much and would take time to accompany him when he should do other things. Then he’d be a negative influence which caused a turn for the worse in the dragon realm. How could he ever forgive himself if that happened?
Jinde didn’t take it too seriously and just went on with his musings. “During our stay in the mortal realm, I also traveled with Jin Yu, just like I did with Qiu Ling’s father while we grew up. It’s … special. Of course, staying together at home helps you find a routine in the life you wish to have together and that is what allows you to create a relationship that lasts a lifetime.
“But going out there and seeing new things is exciting and each experience is made together, adding to the memories you share. Even now, I can still recall each moment of my youth when we discovered a new place and how he looked at me as the sun slanted through the leaves.” He gave a bittersweet smile as he thought of Chun Yin but pushed the thought away just as fast.
“You’re already married but your time spent together is still short. Make the most of it now that things are official and you don’t have as many other considerations.” Even though he was certain that nothing would happen to these two, life was full of twists and turns and you never knew where fate would take you. It was best to use the time you were given now, instead of waiting for a future you didn’t know would ever come.
