Qiu Ling sat quietly for close to half an hour, his thoughts circling around that episode of his past again and again. He also couldn’t help but worry about Jing He’s reaction when he finally read this. At that point in time, he should have recovered from his fall and would be a trueborn god again. If he had indeed decided on him as he hoped he would … wouldn’t this set him back again?
He closed his eyes and sighed deeply, cursing himself. Back then, he had done many wrong things. He couldn’t explain them away and could only comfort himself with the fact that he had become a better person since then who wouldn’t repeat such mistakes. But while this was true to a certain degree and he certainly wouldn’t kill someone easily, he did continue to hurt people. And Jing He, the one he loved the most in his life, was likely the one he had hurt the worst and continued to hurt until this day.
The things he stated in this letter should have been told to Jing He long ago. Failing that, now was the time to tell the truth. After all, how could Jing He make his decision without knowing everything? If he decided to marry him despite all the pushback from his father, then he should be aware of all of his future husband’s shortcomings. Anything else would be deeply unfair to him.
Qiu Ling stared at the scroll that was already densely packed with characters in a daze. These things … should be known after Jing He realized that he was a fallen god and how he could turn back at the very latest. It was just that he had been told to stay away and not to influence him. So even if he wrote it all down, he couldn’t deliver this letter to Jing He in any way. He couldn’t even ask Tian for a favor because the content of this would certainly influence Jing He. Then again, not letting him know … just seemed wrong.
Qiu Ling groaned and rubbed his face. What the fuck was he supposed to do?! It probably wasn’t true but he felt that he was in the biggest dilemma he had ever faced in his life. He needed his beloved to know this and soon at that but he couldn’t let him know before he hadn’t recovered.
Oh, actually … what about after a fallen god recovered? Their soul should be healed and they were back to normal but … didn’t this mean they could fall again? Who knew if this letter would set Jing He back so badly that he would just … have to repeat the whole process over again?
Qiu Ling suddenly felt anxious to the point where he couldn’t sit still. He got to his feet and paced up and down in front of the desk. Finally, he stopped again and turned to the water mirror.
His beloved was still asleep. Sometime between the last time he had checked and now, he had turned onto his side. One sleeve had dropped down, exposing a fair wrist, and his hair clung to his shoulder in a scattered way Qiu Ling seldom saw. Overall, he looked as if he was resting well though.
This might be the last night before Jing He realized what he was now. In the near future, there would likely not be such restful sleep. Instead, his beloved was certain to agonize over his choice, hesitating again and again while he tried to weigh the love he felt for him and the one he had for his family. Adding to that was bad but pushing him back into that state after he had barely made it out one day in the future was even worse.
“Ugh.” Qiu Ling raked a hand through his hair and slumped back down on the chair. “I really should have thought of this sooner …” Yes, now, it was already too late, wasn’t it? Even if he could figure out what the right way to go about this was, he had no way to actually reach Jing He. After all, he couldn’t just …
Qiu Ling’s thoughts trailed off and he froze for a moment. Finally, he cleared his throat and sat up straight, staring up at the water mirror. “Uh … Tian? Are you still there?” His expression was a little hesitant but … what else was he supposed to do? The only person who could answer his questions about fallen gods was Tian and the only one who could get in touch with his beloved was also Tian.
The supreme sovereign up in the High Heavens wasn’t technically paying any attention to the pair of lovers. His main focus was on his own person who he was still patiently waiting for. Still, he hadn’t actually closed the water mirror hanging above so he heard Qiu Ling’s voice when he called out.
He glanced up and faintly raised his brows when he saw him sitting at his desk with a straight posture and decent expression. Qiu Ling had looked like this quite often in the last days, considering that he was still trying to leave the Heavenly Emperor with a good impression. Usually, his demeanor would somewhat change after being alone though. So … what was it that he wanted now?
In the Nine Heavens, Qiu Ling wasn’t sure if Tian was listening at all or if he did whether he intended to react or not. Still, since there was no other way, he figured he should just ask the most pressing question first. If he got an answer, then that would be great. If not … well, he could only try again later. Or maybe tomorrow, just in case the supreme sovereign bothered with matters such as sleep. “Uh … I don’t mean to bother you but I couldn’t help but wonder about something. I hope you could shed some light on this for me. It’s … Well, after a fallen god recovers and becomes a trueborn god again, can they … fall again? And if so, is that likely to happen?”
