Slowly but surely, the people close to Jing He were getting ready for the long time of wait that lay ahead of them. Meanwhile, another person was still lost on what to do.
Xin Lan sat on the couch, Xiang Yu’s head resting on his lap while he stared into the air in a daze. What the fuck was he supposed to do? He had been thinking about nothing else since Tian vanished but he couldn’t come up with a solution.
Don’t even mention finding Xiang Yu’s reincarnation in the mortal world: What about this freaking body? Yes, normally, nobody would come to this place since his home was far away from any towns or villages of the dragon realm. But could he really take any chances when Xiang Yu’s true body was concerned?
Among the immortal races, the gods were certainly the ones who would freak out the most when encountering a fallen god but the dragons came right after them. It was only the demons who might want to try and take advantage because those bastards didn’t know what was good for them. Anyway, this meant that no matter who stumbled upon Xiang Yu in his current state, it would be a disaster. So, naturally, he couldn’t just leave him lying around here.
Xin Lan’s brows twitched while his fingers absentmindedly combed through the fallen god’s hair. He didn’t know where Xiang Yu had gone last time but chances were it had been somewhere in the High Heavens. Now that was a place to keep his body safe but something told him that it wouldn’t work this time around. Why? Well, because Tian had just been here but hadn’t mentioned anything. He clearly didn’t intend to take care of Xiang Yu.
The only other possibility that really made him feel at ease was putting this body in a jade coffin, throwing the thing into a spatial ring, and then carrying it around. It was just … whenever Xiang Yu woke up, he’d have hell to pay for that.
That little fallen god definitely wouldn’t look upon him carrying his body around kindly. Especially since there was a possibility of dying while he wasn’t there which would mean that Xiang Yu woke up in a foreign space that somebody was carrying around. He’d be furious. For the sake of any possible future relationship … he’d better not even try.
But then, what else was there? He’d need somebody to guard Xiang Yu’s body and the number of people able to do so wasn’t big in the first place. For one, not many people knew about him. Two, several of these people were currently busy with their own matters. So really, who was left?
Xin Lan reached up and rubbed his face, already feeling tired. Being entangled with Xiang Yu really was exhausting. He didn’t even dare to imagine how this second trial as a fallen god would turn out.
He sighed and lowered his head, once again staring at Xiang Yu’s unmoving face. “What am I supposed to do with you?” Not going wasn’t an option but going came with so many issues. He didn’t even know where to start.
His silver brows raised in annoyance but, in the end, it wasn’t like there was a choice. He carefully pulled Xiang Yu’s body up, got to his feet, and put him back on the couch. Anyway, the body should be kept in a jade coffin. Without a soul, who knew if a fallen god’s condition would also deteriorate? He’d rather not risk it.
He thought for a moment, his lips pursing slightly. He didn’t have a habit of carrying things like that around and even though he could draw up a formation, what about somebody coming in? So it would be best to bring him along but he had to make sure that nobody saw.
Xin Lan groaned and started to look through his spatial ring. First, hide the Mark of Wisdom. Later, he could still deal with the rest.
Taking some inspiration from the way Jinde had dressed Xiang Yu up two days ago, he found an intricate set of jewelry. It was silver, with delicate carvings all over that circled around a few bright blue stones. To say it in a few words, it was luxurious to a fault. Everyone who saw it would know that the person wearing it was somebody special.
Xin Lan’s fingers rubbed the smooth surface. He had a lot of such sets. Sometimes, he would buy one even when there was nobody to give it to, feeling that there would be an opportunity in the future. Well, this habit sure came in handy now.
He stopped thinking about it and simply knelt down next to the couch to fasten the headband in place. Pushing Xiang Yu’s hair aside, his gaze fixed on the jewelry on his ear. This was … the earring he had personally forged for Hua Lin Yu as a gift for their renewed engagement. At that time, his lover had rejected him, handing the earring back and running away. From then on, everything had gone wrong.
Xin Lan stared at it in a daze and needed a moment before he manage to tear his gaze away. All of that was in the past now. His Xiao Yu was gone and now, there was only this fallen god left. It wasn’t what he had wished for but … it didn’t seem impossible either. So why get caught up in the past?
He reached out, his fingertips trailing the earring and lightly brushing the soft skin beneath. With a sigh, he brushed the hair further aside and put the headband in place. It didn’t reach deep enough to cover the whole Mark of Wisdom. Instead, only the upper half was obstructed from view but this was enough.
With the position of the mark between one’s brows, there really weren’t many designs that could obscure it completely and he only wanted to make it less likely for somebody to notice it. This way, even if somebody saw, they might just think it was a shadow thrown by the headband, and he sure wouldn’t give them the chance to get more than a glance.
Nodding to himself, Xin Lan pulled a dark blue cloak out of his spatial ring as well, wrapping Xiang Yu’s figure in it tightly. Pulling up the wide hood, his face was partly covered in shadows. Now, as long as he carried him fast enough, nobody should see.
