Having just been reminded of Yue Lin, Jing Yi decided that it would be best to go and see him first. Anyway, if nothing had changed in the time since he came to the Hei Dian Sect last time, then Yue Lin would still be in that study, agonizing over all the matters of the alchemy division. He was actually pretty similar to Wu Min Huan in that regard. If everyone met up together, those two would probably hit it off right away.
Thinking of that, Jing Yi couldn’t help but smile to himself. It really was as Wu Min Huan had said: Not everyone in the demonic sects was bad. In fact, not every demonic sect was bad in general. Wasn’t that also what he had thought when he originally came here?
Back then, he had believed that demonic cultivators were scary and would do evil all day. As a result, he came here, got a warm reception, and couldn’t see a single evil thing happening. In fact, he had felt that the Hei Dian Sect treated the less gifted disciples much better than the Yun Zou Sect did.
So yes, they weren’t as evil as imagined and maybe the people in the righteous sects and in the demonic sects weren’t that different either. He surely felt that way when he compared the people he had met on either side.
He led Xiao Dong to the entrance of the alchemy division and couldn’t help but introduce everything while they walked further inside, feeling reminded of the time when he had come here for the first time.
Xiao Dong listened even though this didn’t matter much to him. Anyway, after Jing Yi was satisfied with what he had done here, they would return to the dragon realm and he didn’t see himself coming back here anytime soon. So really, it didn’t matter much. But since Jing Yi wanted to tell him, he would listen closely, nodding every once in a while or giving a hum. It sure looked as if he was attentively listening.
Soon, the two of them had made their way over to the building that Yue Lin was usually in.
Jing Yi stopped outside and turned to Xiao Dong, thinking back to his own first meeting with the alchemy division’s head disciple. “When we go inside, don’t get startled. He might look a bit … weird.”
Xiao Dong raised his brows, not sure what to make of that. For humans, dragons certainly looked weird so he didn’t think that there should be a problem for him. But then, he was used to people in the dragon realm, so if Jing Yi was warning him, then who knew what was so strange about this guy? Well, he was curious to find out!
Seeing that Xiao Dong didn’t seem to mind, Jing Yi nodded to himself, turned around, and walked inside.
They could hear voices coming over from the study which probably meant that Yue Lin was awake and even had a visitor. Jing Yi wondered if it was alright to interrupt but then, it was better they informed Yue Lin that they were here first. He could still wait after that.
The closer they came, the more Jing Yi felt that the person talking sounded familiar even though that clearly wasn’t Yue Lin’s voice. He tilted his head and focused on it, his expression first showing some doubt and then turning into disbelief. This sounded a lot like the other person he had wanted to see!
He accelerated his steps and finally arrived at the door, tilting his head to look inside. Indeed, just as expected, while Yue Lin was half-sitting, half-lying on the table, Niu Hai was just a few steps away, pacing up and down while wringing his hands and talking agitatedly.
Jing Yi couldn’t help himself and smiled before knocking on the door. “Am I disturbing the two of you?”
Niu Hai stopped in his tracks and whirled around, staring at him with wide eyes while Yue Lin just gave the same tired look as usual. Then, his own eyes also slowly widened before turning to the piles of paperwork on his desk and back to Jing Yi.
Jing Yi smiled wryly, feeling that he had a rough guess of just what was going through Yue Lin’s mind. Well, he couldn’t fault him. What was in front of him looked like it couldn’t be dealt with by one person alone. Not in a few days at least.
It really made him wonder why the Elders of the alchemy division still hadn’t done anything about this. Surely, each of them should have at least one disciple who could take some tasks off Yue Lin’s shoulders. Why was everyone pushing it off to him?
But then, this wasn’t something he should worry about. He wasn’t even a real disciple of the Hei Dian Sect, not to mention that he had stopped living in the mortal realm. So really, this was none of his business and nothing he could solve even if it was.
Meanwhile, Niu Hai had managed to pull himself out of his surprise and rushed over to give him a hug. As a result, Jing Yi was pulled back and Xiao Dong raised his chin, staring at the person in front of him.
Niu Hai stopped dead in his tracks, barely managing to avoid colliding with him. Looking at the person in front of him, he couldn’t help but feel stunned. This guy … where had he come from?
Not quite sure what to make of this, he looked up at Jing Yi. “Jing He, where did you pick this child up? Is that a new recruit for the alchemy division?”
Xiao Dong’s brows twitched and he decided that there was only one answer that could be given to this. He narrowed his eyes, lifted his foot, and then did what he had learned from his king years ago: He kicked the other person away. Then, he stepped to the side and motioned into the room, letting Jing Yi go in before he took a stance close to him, crossing his arms in front of his chest.
He might not have been asked to do so, but he would keep any strange man away from His Majesty’s beloved. As a good subject, that was what he should do. And he would do it even more gladly if the strange man in question was insulting him like this.
So what if he still looked like a teenager? That was normal for a dragon of his age! It didn’t mean that he was a child. Not by a long shot. At the very least, he shouldn’t be in front of the eyes of those mortals.
