Fa Ai Jun tilted her head and looked at the disciples in the courtyard that were waving their swords with about as much synchrony as a drunk bee. “Haish, is taking in disciples always like this?” Thankfully, she hadn’t needed to take in any disciples herself so far. Seeing these little children wobble about, she really didn’t know if she would be able to take it.
She glanced at Elder Feng that stood to the side with the same cold expression he always wore, his hands clasped behind his back, and his gaze roving over the group of children with what seemed to be displeasure. Ah, being his disciple also couldn’t be easy.
Elder Feng’s gaze finally came to rest on one of the boys. “Chao Bing, you step forward.”
One of the boys stopped in his movement and then came to the front, looking at Elder Feng with big eyes.
Elder Feng scrutinized him and then motioned for him to repeat his movements. Watching closely, he finally nodded. “You can go and tell Yijun to teach you the next move afterward.”
The boy blinked his eyes in surprise but still didn’t forget to cup his little fists and bow. “Yes, Master.”
Elder Feng nodded and then turned with flourishing sleeves, leaving the courtyard. The little boy continued to stand there for a moment before he returned to the group and swung his sword once more.
Elder Fa couldn’t help but smile brightly. “Ah, what a cute child! That’s the type of disciple one would want! Even Elder Feng can’t help but treat him a bit better. That might just be his favorite disciple among this batch.”
She kept her eyes trained on the little boy, waiting for him to finally lower his sword and leave quite some time after most of the group had already given up. When he exited the courtyard and walked over to the dwellings of the disciples, Elder Fa rushed after him. “Little disciple, little disciple! Wait a moment!”
Mei Chao Bing stopped and turned around, looking at the woman that was rushing after him with confusion. He hadn’t seen her before but she seemed to be from another sect anyway judging from the robe she wore.
Elder Fa stopped in front of him and gave him a bright smile. “Hello there! You’re Elder Feng’s disciple, right?”
Mei Chao Bing nodded, still looking unsure of what this woman wanted of him.
Elder Fa only smiled brighter. “Can I ask you a question?”
Mei Chao Bing nodded again. “Of course.”
“About your Master … How well do you know him?”
This time, Mei Chao Bing wasn’t as quick to respond. In the end, he didn’t answer at all. “Why do you want to know?”
Fa Ai Jun was taken aback. “Uh …” How was she supposed to explain that? With no fitting answer at hand, she could only smile and search through her spatial bag. Finally, she procured a piece of candy. “Ah, look at this! How about I give you this piece of candy and you tell me what you know about your Master?” She raised her brows suggestively but the boy just shook his head.
“No. And I need to go and see my senior martial brother now.” With that, he took off, not sparing the strange woman another glance.
Elder Fa pursed her lips. Dang it! This hadn’t worked. Now, what was she supposed to do?
