Qiu Ling hummed slowly. His beloved really knew what to say in such moments. He craned his neck and kissed him on the lips again. “Is that called the love for one’s house reaching the crows on the roof?”
Jing He hurriedly shook his head but he still smiled after receiving that kiss and looking into Qiu Ling’s gentle eyes. “No, I am saying there are no crows.” Even if Qiu Ling and Jinde thought there were, he couldn’t see any no matter how hard he looked. Whatever negative things there might have been in the past, they were simply steps to his husband becoming the excellent man he was today. How could that be called lacking?
“Mn.” Qiu Ling tilted his head, his lips also curving up further. His beloved really was too cute. He could almost make him believe that there really wasn’t the slightest flaw in his personality. But then, this was simply the gaze of a person in love, wasn’t it? A lot of things, you could completely overlook as long as your feelings for the other person were enough. As long as it didn’t hurt them, it didn’t seem to exist.
He … was probably the same with Jing He. Otherwise, how come the only issue he could see was Jing He being too timid to make his own decisions and tell them to others directly? And even this, he didn’t really see as Jing He’s fault but considered it to be the side-effect of his father’s bad teaching and overbearing personality. It couldn’t be counted as an inherent flaw. His beloved simply didn’t have such a thing. No, he was all-around perfect in his eyes.
Qiu Ling lowered his head, trying to hold back his smile. If they continued thinking in this direction, he was afraid they’d be praising each other to the High Heavens. But then, did it really matter? This was their wedding day. Why wouldn’t they happily tell each other how deep their love was? It was the best opportunity to do so, now that they had finally made it official.
Raising his head again, his gaze brushed over Jing He’s face and his heart thumped. “You make me feel like I’m the best person in the world in your eyes.”
Jing He paused but then nodded. “You are.” Who else would it be if not his husband? He couldn’t think of a single person he’d admire more than him.
Qiu Ling hummed and leaned closer, wrapping his arm tightly around Jing He’s waist while his other hand found its way back into his hair, his fingers slowly brushing through the silky strands. “I like this feeling.” Before, while Jing He had certainly loved him, he often hadn’t dared to express it. Now, even though he still seemed somewhat hesitant, he could also tell him directly that he loved him and even answer honestly that he thought him to be the best. What more could he wish for?
Jing He wasn’t entirely sure what was going through his husband’s mind. Feeling the hand in his hair and thinking of how Qiu Ling had done this more than once before, he even felt that this was what he should mean. If he remembered correctly, this didn’t seem to be out of the ordinary for dragons either. They, who cared a great deal about their appearance, also liked to show their appreciation for the physical features they liked. And in his case, the black hair and dark eyes that complemented each other were seen as desirable among the dragon race, weren’t they?
Jing He raised his gaze to Qiu Ling’s own inky-black hair and thought of how his eyes also appeared completely black at first glance. It was … a very good look on him so he could understand the dragons’ perspective. He also felt happy that he could fulfill this to a certain degree even without having a dragon form.
Thinking about it for a moment longer … the way Qiu Ling showed his appreciation made him feel comfortable and a little bit proud as well. This openness of the dragon race which didn’t bother to hide their feelings and were able to directly state or show what they liked and didn’t like, it helped him feel more secure at a time when everything around him was new.
His husband indeed loved him and appreciated the way he looked. Other dragons wouldn’t find fault with his appearance either. Even those who might think it would have been better for their king to be with another true-blooded dragon might be willing to admit that among all the people he could have chosen, at least he found one that conformed to the dragons’ aesthetics, somewhat blending in with the people around them and being an acceptable match for this king they admired so much.
Jing He smiled to himself, feeling satisfied. He might not be perfect but he wasn’t that bad either. As for the things he ought to change … His gaze lingered on Qiu Ling’s hair and he hesitantly reached up until his fingertips made contact with the black strands.
The dragons liked to show their feelings openly. He struggled with this but it was important to learn to accept this and become a little more open himself. Not just to blend in but also … also because his husband should like it.
Obviously, he himself felt good thinking about how Qiu Ling showed his feelings so why wouldn’t he repay the favor? Before they were married, his husband had once asked him to show him more of his feelings, probably because he was slowly losing hope that they would ever truly be together. Now, they were already married but how could he simply rely on that? No, since he had decided to be with Qiu Ling and would spend the rest of his life with him, he should do better and fulfill this small wish. Anyway, how hard could it be to show his love in front of his husband himself?
With that thought, he slowly moved his fingers, brushing through that dark hair just like he was used to from his husband.
