Shen Lei stared at him in a daze. He knew that Luo Lin’s second senior martial brother was a bit … unreliable most of the time but what he was saying this time sounded downright dangerous. So far, the only thing that should have been absorbed were low-level attacks he himself used as a test. This meant that the energy that had been accumulated wherever that ‘gathering spot’ was couldn’t be much. But if this kept going or the attack of an actual powerhouse was added … the consequences could be disastrous! And the worst thing was that nobody knew where they would happen.
After a moment, Shen Lei raised a hand and rubbed his forehead. Whatever. He couldn’t deal with that right now. They needed to help keep Yun Bei Fen a little safer, then get back to the Elders and share Yan Hong Min’s method with them. They couldn’t get sidetracked.
Anyway, the three items they had just been handed were only for an emergency. Maybe everyone else would be busy with the big battle and nobody would even find Luo Lin’s little junior. In that case, he would have worried completely without reason. They could still talk about this after everything else was dealt with and figure out that situation.
Lowering his hand, he sighed. “Very well. Let’s not talk about this. We’ll bring these things to Fen’er. There is one person guarding him but her level is on the lower side so she can’t be of much help.”
Luo Lin nodded but thought of something else. “Do you have something for her to transport him fast if anything happens?”
Yan Hong Min pursed his lips. “How come you suddenly want so many things?” All these years, he had been painstakingly pouring hours upon hours into his research, perfecting his inventions but nobody had cared. Now, everyone suddenly came to ask him for help and whether it was his precious prototypes or finished devices, many were given away. Who knew if he’d ever get them back?
Luo Lin only gave him a beautiful smile. He didn’t feel that he was wrong. He hardly left the sect under normal circumstances and instead stayed in, only waiting for Shen Lei to come back from his missions. The last mission he himself went on had been years ago, long before the two of them got together. As a result, Yan Hong Min’s inventions mattered little to him. Where should he use them, after all?
Shen Lei was slightly different. Even though he wasn’t among the people Luo Lin’s second senior martial brother would randomly gift things to, he had often been out with Zhi Guan so he knew a little about the pile of things he had accumulated over the years. “Don’t think too much. Your inventions are useful but it depends on the situation when they should be taken out.
“Ah Lin doesn’t leave the sect much and you know how obsessed your first senior martial brother is with sword arts. Of course, he’ll rely on his sword unless it’s impossible to win by simply fighting upright. Now, we’ve reached a situation where the odds are stacked against us and the other side indeed isn’t playing fairly. Of course, now is the time to take out the fruits of your hard labor.
“Try to look on the positive side: After this battle is over, if we can truly win, you’ll get a lot of great feedback directly from the front. If you can incorporate all of it, won’t it allow you to reach the next level in your art? The Elders and Sect Master Zhang are also going to value your work more from now on after it has proven so useful under these circumstances.”
Luo Lin hastily nodded to support his fiance’s standpoint. Yes, yes, this had to be it! Also, it wasn’t like they had never used his inventions. It was just that inside the sect, they really weren’t all that useful. Not that he’d say that out loud in this situation.
Yan Hong Min was pacified after hearing this explanation and seeing his third junior martial brother nod seriously. Well, it seemed that he hadn’t been ignored maliciously in the past. These people still understood that his work was important, they just hadn’t had the opportunity to show it before.
Unfortunately … “I don’t think I have what you need. The kind of items that can transport someone, they need a lot of materials. I am barely scraping together what I can and make do with less perfect alternatives all the time. Where would I have the opportunity to make something like that? Plus, there are a lot of flying tools and most disciples can fly on their swords anyway. It doesn’t make sense to invest more time into this.”
Yes, he was researching new tools or better versions of existing ones. But flying was such a common skill that it was pretty unnecessary. The only ones who couldn’t fly were the youngest disciples and when they were brought to the sect in the beginning or taken out for their first missions, there were ready-made flying tools to transport them.
For those few occasions, it really made no sense to try and make them better. He’d rather invest his precious time and materials into other ventures that could actually change daily life in the cultivation world. That was what he wanted, after all: To make an actual difference!
Luo Lin sighed. Well, that would have been too easy. But still, they had already gotten more from this visit than he had hoped for. “Thank you nonetheless. You’ve helped us a lot. With this, we’ll be able to have our little junior be just a bit safer and maybe deal with those demonic cultivators. If all goes well, we’ll be back in a few days or maybe a week at most.”
Yan Hong Min nodded, feeling that this sounded good. He indeed wanted to hear that feedback Shen Lei had promised him!
Seeing his excited look, Shen Lei couldn’t help but caution him. “If you haven’t heard from us until then, things will have likely gone wrong. If you can, rely on your inventions to keep yourself safe and maybe go to the border region to find your little junior.” As for them … they likely wouldn’t be there anymore if they truly hadn’t made it back until then.
