OMF V11C374 A Good Gift Or A Bad Gift?

Chang Bo’s wife indeed felt a bit displeased. This had been her idea so she could hardly blame her husband but … why could she clearly see that His Majesty wasn’t happy while that fact seemed to completely elude her husband? It was alright to choose the wrong gift. That simply meant being well-meaning but having had a misunderstanding about the other person’s preferences. But not gracefully bowing out of the situation when that became obvious? Yes, that just meant you were becoming an idiot in the other person’s eyes! How could she let that happen to her husband?

As soon as Chang Bo was within reach, she grabbed his sleeve and pulled him next to her, leaning in. “He didn’t like it. His spouse looked confused and His Majesty is clearly displeased. Don’t push the issue even further.”

Chang Bo looked over there, hardly believing what he heard. Did His Majesty not want children? Was that the reason? Otherwise, he really couldn’t see where they had gone wrong. The collection they had gathered was definitely great! There was lots of variation from sizes to styles and colors. There simply wasn’t anything left to wish for!

Unless, of course, the couple wanted to choose themselves but nobody was saying they couldn’t pick and choose from what they had been gifted. Plus, with how long it took for a child to grow up, they’d still need more. This was simply so they wouldn’t have to think about it too much and already have something to build upon. Although, come to think about it …

Chang Bo leaned closer to his wife, his brows furrowing. “Do you think His Majesty believes we were insulting him, saying that he couldn’t care for his own children?” They themselves had three and had managed to raise them without needing this kind of gift. Of course, they hadn’t tried to imply that their king did but … who knew?

With Chang Bo’s identity, the couple naturally sat close to the front of the group. At the next table over, Shou Quan and her wife were seated. Hearing the hushed conversation next to them, Shou Quan couldn’t help but glance over before leaning closer to her wife. “Do you also think His Majesty wasn’t pleased with Chang Bo’s gift?”

Yu Gan glanced at her wife and shook her head. “It’s not that bad but it probably won’t make it into his favorites. It’s their wedding day. Knowing him, he probably wants the focus to stay on their relationship and not their future children. Chances are, he doesn’t want any anytime soon either.”

Shou Quan hummed and dropped the topic, instead, she couldn’t help but worry about something else. “Is our gift good?” She … actually didn’t know what their gift was. She had been in the Nine Heavens with Qiu Ling while the crown prince was gone and then stayed around even after because their king didn’t leave. Even though he obviously moved out of the Heavenly Emperor’s palace, she just thought for a while and then went to stay at the palace where Adviser An Bai and the half-bloods were. Anyway, the place was meant for the people from the dragon realm so why not?

As a result, when the invitations were sent out, she received one and hurriedly informed her wife … before letting her organize the rest. She only returned to the dragon realm the day before and then left with everyone this morning. While back, she had spent every minute with her wife but after the long separation, somebody else’s wedding gift hadn’t been at the front of her mind. Now, she suddenly realized that she had never asked about it.

Yu Gan gave her wife a helpless look. She had wondered when she’d think of it. She would have expected that it would either be when they arrived or when the first person went up to hand over their gift. That she had taken until now … Well, her mind had probably been elsewhere.

She slightly shook her head at her wife’s absentmindedness but still smiled. “Don’t worry about it. They will definitely love this.” Even though she didn’t know the king very well, it was easy enough to find the perfect gift for him. In a sense, he was a simple man, after all: Make his beloved happy and he’d be happy so she had chosen something with that in mind.

Shou Quan nodded with relief when she heard that. Anyway, she trusted her wife. If she had chosen the gift, there was already a chance that nine out of ten, it would be great. If she said herself that it was, then it was almost a certainty. “Then tell me when you want to go and hand it over. Let’s do it together. You can do the talking and I’ll just stand next to you and look official.”

Yu Gan couldn’t help but chuckle. Well, she hadn’t expected anything else. “Let’s go right after General Jia Su is done. Anyway, you all have the same rank so it seems appropriate.”

Shou Quan nodded and watched as the person in question handed over his gift.

Jia Su had never been one to make many words around matters. He simply greeted the couple, gave his well-wishes, and then pulled out his gift which turned out to be a collection of books, before bidding his farewell already.

Shou Quan shot to her feet as soon as she heard the parting words from his lips and then led her wife over, inclining her head toward the couple while Yu Gan did the talking.

Qiu Ling wasn’t surprised. From what he knew about this couple, this was how they usually behaved. He did have a good impression of them as well so he felt a little curious what their chosen gift would be.

Well, Yu Gan wasn’t the type to make much of a surprise out of things and pulled out a huqin right after she finished her greetings.
