Qiu Ling gave the person a long look and suddenly felt a bit worried. Even though he had played a crazy person for years, he was certainly aware that there were others in the dragon realm who likely weren’t acting when showing some kind of odd behavior. Now, should he be worried about this guy causing some issues in front of his beloved? Based on his expression … yes, he was likely going to do that.
Qiu Ling slightly pursed his lips and eyed the box instead. He really was afraid of what they’d find in there so he didn’t want to let Jing He open it and quickly took over that task. What he found … was a bracelet. A really normal-looking one. In fact, it couldn’t have been more ordinary. It wasn’t even carved or anything, just a plain, smooth bracelet. Really nothing to worry about, apart from Chang Bo’s taste maybe. But then, Jing He looked good in anything so it didn’t matter.
“Thank you very much. We appreciate it.” Qiu Ling smiled faintly and was about to close the box when he saw Chang Bo’s eyes widen. He paused but the other dragon looked as if he had a bone stuck in his throat and couldn’t speak. Qiu Ling sighed faintly. “What’s the matter?”
“Uh … The gift is inside, Your Majesty.” Chang Bo scratched his head, wondering if they had been too subtle. “The bracelet is just to transport it. It was my wife’s idea!”
Qiu Ling looked at the simple box and the simple bracelet inside and suddenly felt some vague horror creeping up again. If this was just meant as a means of transportation … then he still had no idea what the gift was like. It might really be something odd!
He glanced at Jing He but then just plastered a smile on his face again and imbued some spiritual energy into the bracelet. Immediately, he perceived a small room inside. It truly wasn’t big, just a few steps in each direction. Looking around, the four walls were lined with shelves and each compartment held a box or, well, it wouldn’t be wrong to call them a trunk. They looked as if they had been created out of massive wood and would weigh a lot if you picked them up. Also, they could clearly hold a lot of things.
Qiu Ling stared at them for a moment, feeling doubtful. Something told him that Chang Bo and his wife weren’t gifting them a bunch of boxes in a bracelet in a box for their wedding. While being able to store things would always be nice, it just didn’t seem fitting. So the actual gift … should be inside those boxes and with how many there were and the sheer size of each of them … yes, he felt a little afraid to open them.
Outside, Jing He looked at his husband with a doubtful expression. Since General Chang Bo was from the dragon realm, he felt it inappropriate to intervene but he didn’t quite understand what was going on. Was there something odd about this gift? But what was it even?
He couldn’t very well ask any questions about this while the person who had given the gift was still right in front of them but it was something to bring up later for sure. For now, he just turned back to the front and sat there quietly, waiting for Qiu Ling to handle the matter.
Qiu Ling stared at one of the boxes for a while and finally reached out, slowly opening it. He was a little afraid of what he’d find but not checking wouldn’t make things any better. Lifting the lid, he saw a piece of fabric.
He faintly raised his brows, wondering if these boxes were just full of some materials. It would make sense, to be honest. The southeast where Chang Bo lived produced quite a lot of items. It also wouldn’t be the worst gift for a newlywed couple. No, they’d certainly find a use for this and if they didn’t for a while, then they could still do something with it later.
He opened the next box and indeed found more fabric inside. He already wanted to heave a sigh of relief when he noticed a seam on this one. Narrowing his eyes, he picked it up and finally realized that this wasn’t simply a piece of fabric but a robe.
He blinked his eyes, not sure what to make of it. The robe looked nice if a little plain but it didn’t seem like it’d fit either him or his beloved. Had Chang Bo wanted to gift them clothes but messed up by getting the wrong size? Well, it was an odd gift to receive from someone for their wedding and they weren’t close enough that he’d have expected this either so that would explain why it went so wrong.
He put the robe back and wanted to pull out of the space contained in the bracelet but then couldn’t help but stop and check the other boxes. Anyway, it was better to be more thorough before he misunderstood something.
Having made up his mind, Qiu Ling checked the other boxes and pulled out a few more items. All of them were clothes but he soon realized that the sizes varied and not just by a little. At first, he wondered if Chang Bo and his wife had come up with the idea of making some in every size just to make sure they’d get some of them right. But then, he realized that several of the robes were so ridiculously far from their size that it simply wasn’t possible. In fact, approaching this with an open mind … these weren’t adult-sized robes at all.
Qiu Ling finally stopped imbuing spiritual energy and looked at Chang Bo while trying to keep his lips from twitching. “What exactly did your wife say?”
Chang Bo smiled happily when he felt that his king appreciated the gift. “Well, of course, after getting married, Your Majesty is sure to get on planning children soon. There’ll be a lot of things to get by then so we gathered the people from our city together and everyone contributed a robe for the years to come!”
Qiu Ling’s lips really twitched this time. Thankfully, Tian had revealed just earlier that he had taken the curse of the Heavenly Family off Jing He or his beloved surely would have been distraught hearing this.
