Back on the square in front of the Heavenly Emperor’s palace, Rong Su powerlessly watched as his precious son was once again abducted by the dragon king. Needless to say, he felt enraged but his brother-in-law was still holding onto his arm, refusing to let go.
When Jing He disappeared from view, he finally turned to Qiang Yan, his dark expression turning even stormier. “What do you think you were doing just now! Didn’t you see him take Jing He away? Who knows what he’ll do when alone?!” Obviously, he had already negatively influenced his son too much or Jing He would never be that disobedient. That child had always listened to him, no matter what. It was only after that dandy appeared and wrapped him around his little finger that he started to stray from the right path. It was infuriating! Especially so since his own wife and brother-in-law seemed to be abetting that villain as if they didn’t care about Jing He’s future.
Qiang Yan listened while trying to maintain a neutral expression but still didn’t let go. If he did, he knew exactly that this guy would rush after the two lovebirds and make more trouble. How could he let that happen?
He waited until Rong Su caught his breath before he finally spoke up. “Brother-in-law, I apologize for being impolite but … Bai Fen is right. Jing He just came back. We don’t know yet what exactly happened but he is probably tired. Isn’t it better to give him some time to get back to normal? I don’t think there is anything to be achieved by yelling at him now.”
Of course, he didn’t think that there was anything to be achieved that way but he wisely kept that thought to himself. For the time being, they should just try to stabilize the situation and then deal with the fallout later, preferably after Jing He and Qiu Ling had left for the dragon realm. And surely, they would. At this point, there was no other outcome than that even if his brother-in-law was trying to pretend the inevitable wasn’t going to happen.
Rong Su huffed. “What yelling at my son? I was yelling at that bastard! And since we don’t know what happened, we should get involved even more.”
Qiang Yan gave him a doubtful look but also knew that any further words wouldn’t help. This guy had made up his mind long ago. Nothing would get through to him now. He just was that type of person.
Bai Fen looked at her husband coldly and finally walked down the staircase step by step until she stopped in front of him.
Rong Su who had still had a bellyful of other negative remarks about the dragon king immediately fell silent. He dared to argue with anyone but not with his wife. Between the two of them, she was the one who had more pull. He really was afraid of the consequences of angering her.
Bai Fen slowly raised her brows. She knew he wouldn’t dare to say anything in front of her face but it was unlikely he wouldn’t try something as soon as she turned around. She’d better prevent that right now. “Instead of making a fuss here, why not do something practical instead? Your son was brought back by the demon king himself. Have you thanked him yet? All three realms were taking part in the search for Jing He as well. Someone will have to inform them that he has been found. Considering how long this has lasted and how much it has disturbed everyone’s life, you’d better invite the more important figures over for a celebration in a few days. When do you intend to prepare that?”
Rong Su flinched every time she said something. Obviously, his wife thought he was useless. He not only needed to be told what to do but her tone suggested she didn’t think he could do it. When she finally finished, he hastily cleared his throat. “Of course, I am doing all of that! I just wanted to make sure Jing He is alright first.”
“Well, you’ve seen him and he clearly isn’t hurt, just tired. I’ll go and make sure he has everything he needs now so you don’t have to worry about that. Just go and do your job.” Saying so, she didn’t bother about him any longer and turned around, also walking toward her son’s palace.
Qiang Yan glanced at his sister’s back and held back a sigh. Somehow, he felt that this relationship between these two would completely break down soon. Bay Fen had put up with a lot of things over the years but it seemed that she had truly hit a breaking point. Unless Rong Su did an about-turn and kept on the right course, it was only a question of time now. Unfortunately, he didn’t think he would. His brother-in-law was the type to dig his heels in even further if he felt like everyone was against him.
Well, maybe there was nothing unfortunate about this. These two … to be honest, they hadn’t been that happy before. Bai Fen had found him annoying at first and maybe that had been the right impression. Most likely, she regretted the choices she had made up until here.
He lowered his head and finally forced himself to show a smile. “I will also go and make sure that everything is alright.” He didn’t wait for a response and simply left.
If his sister divorced the Heavenly Emperor, he didn’t think he could stay in his position. Even if it wasn’t imminent, he should think about what to do in the future. To be honest, going to the dragon realm might not be too bad. Weren’t Bai Mu and Nie Huang there? Even though they had moved into the Heavenly Emperor’s palace for the time being, they would likely return there. Maybe … if he and Bai Fen followed, the whole family could get together. He’d certainly like that.
