Ye Yang quietly watched as the Son of Heaven floated in the air before slowly moving forward, thinking to himself that somehow, this didn’t seem to be much faster than walking. Despite that, he didn’t say anything. Clearly, it wasn’t that there was an issue with the magical abilities of the Son of Heaven but if that wasn’t it, then the reason why he had been walking instead of flying … well, it could only be that he wasn’t used to it.
In that case, how dare he urge him to fly faster? If something happened because he was in a rush, how would he explain to the dragon king? Anyway, since they were likely to meet halfway, he shouldn’t worry about this. Just make a little bit of progress to keep this person’s mind occupied and then hand him over as soon as the dragon king appeared. Then after that, he could rush back to the demon realm and deal with the aftermath of the competition.
Thinking of how he had needed to leave so suddenly, Ye Yang sighed to himself. It really wasn’t easy to be king. There were so many things to deal with. So far, all of it had been things he planned to do by himself but today’s matter was a reminder that not everything would go according to plan. Unforeseen circumstances could always come up and he’d have to deal with them, no matter whether he wanted to or not.
The two of them flew silently next to each other for a while and Jing He slowly got used to the feeling of being in the air. Even if he seldom used his magic, he was still a trueborn god. He was just lacking in practice. Now that he was using the ability, he would naturally find his bearing soon.
Realizing that the person next to him seemed to be having an easier time, Ye Yang sped up a little. So far, nothing could be seen of the dragon king but Lin Shi should have arrived in the Nine Heavens already. Considering the time it’d take a dragon to fly to the border between the realms … they should be seeing his figure soon.
Actually, it was odd that they hadn’t seen him yet. After all, the dragon king was likely to go all out when he heard that his lover had been found. They hadn’t seen each other for weeks. For a dragon, that should be unbearable, and rushing over as fast as he could was a matter of course. With the dragon king’s strength, it shouldn’t take that long. So where was he? It couldn’t be that something had happened, could it?
Ye Yang tried not to think too much and simply continued to move forward, trying to go a little faster whenever he was sure that Jing He could bear it. Anyway, even if they didn’t meet the person halfway, as long as the Son of Heaven saw anything familiar, it would be good. He just didn’t want him to start thinking that he was being abducted by a demon … potentially again.
In this way, the two of them made their way over the mountain range and arrived in the Nine Heavens. Ye Yang glanced at Jing He to try and see if this place seemed more familiar to him but Jing He didn’t really seem to realize where they were. In fact, this wasn’t too odd. The landscape on either side of the mountain range didn’t look that different. Otherwise, would he have walked in the wrong direction before? Certainly not.
Strangely enough, even now, nothing could be seen of either the dragon king or any guards the Heavenly Emperor might have sent. It was as if the people in the Nine Heavens didn’t care … or hadn’t heard yet that their crown prince had returned.
Ye Yang’s eyelids twitched, thinking of Lin Shi. He generally trusted her and considering that she had informed him about having found the crown prince in the first place, it would be odd if she now refused to inform the Nine Heavens as well. Rather than that … it might be that she had gotten into trouble through no fault of her own.
He sighed and turned to Jing He, feeling that this possibility should be communicated to the Son of Heaven before he started to feel that something was off. “It seems odd that we haven’t seen anyone come to receive you yet. Lin Shi should have made it to the capital already. I’m afraid she might have met with some trouble since she is a demon.”
Even though you couldn’t distinguish many demons from dragons, there were some subtle clues in Lin Shi’s appearance. But even if not, he somehow doubted that she would walk up to the guards at the gate and pretend to be a dragon. No, Lin Shi was prideful and she even took pride in her identity as a demon. She would never pretend to be anything else so chances were, her report had started with some words along the lines of ‘I am Lin Shi, right hand to the demon king’ or something to that effect. And how big was the chance that the heavenly guards hadn’t reacted badly to that?
Jing He didn’t know Lin Shi but he immediately thought of his father’s attitude when dealing with the dragons. Surely … it could only be worse when the other side was a demon, couldn’t it? Although Qiu Ling should believe her and even if he didn’t, he would still rush over to verify it, so what his father thought should be irrelevant. Still, maybe due to his father’s attitude, she hadn’t even been let in and Qiu Ling had never been able to hear what should be heard. “Then … what should we do?”
Ye Yang looked at the person and raised his brows. “Well … fly the rest of the way? It’s not like the guards won’t recognize you if I bring you right up to the gates.”
Jing He nodded and the two people fell silent, simply making their way further toward the capital city.
