Ye Yang watched the person in puzzlement. Half his face looked like that and yet, he somehow managed to raise his hand somewhere else entirely. Had he … not even realized what had happened? It seemed impossible but Jing He’s reaction was so odd that he finally pulled a bronze mirror out of his spatial ring, holding it in front of his face.
“It seems you were injured and I’m afraid the dragon king might misunderstand. Do you have anything on you to heal the injury? I might have a pill as well but I’m not sure if you’d feel comfortable accepting anything from me so …” He trailed off, not bothering to say more. He was a demon. Even if he hadn’t personally done anything harmful to this person or anyone he knew, he would still be regarded with distrust. It was to be expected.
Jing He looked into the mirror and lowered his hand, realizing that just like in his first vision, the Mark of Wisdom was gone. He felt elated for a moment but then paused. This … Did this truly mean he was a trueborn god again or was this due to the fact he had given up the abilities exclusive to the fallen gods? It seemed … that he couldn’t actually tell.
He stared in a daze and only pulled out of it when Ye Yang tilted his head to look at him. Stiffening, Jing He looked at Ye Yang’s face and then back into the mirror, finally realizing how he looked. Then … he once again fell into a daze.
During the first two-thousand years of his life, he had gotten injured often, no matter how careful he was. It only stopped abruptly on the day he came of age and since then, when had anything happened? It all seemed to be over, finally giving him peace of mind. But now, he suddenly had this kind of injury again.
To be fair, while it looked shocking on his otherwise pale skin, it wasn’t that bad. After a week or two, nothing would remain and unless he touched the injured skin, it didn’t even hurt. Still, seeing himself in this state made him feel uncomfortable. It was an unwelcome reminder of the things he had lived through and endured for what seemed to be entirely too many years.
Jing He lightly touched his face but pulled back his hand just as fast. “I fell earlier. It must be from then.” As for healing the injury … he didn’t care so much about it himself but Ye Yang’s words weren’t wrong: If Qiu Ling saw this, he certainly wouldn’t feel good. Thinking of that, he finally looked through his spatial bracelet, taking out a pill of his own.
The one benefit of getting injured often was that he was naturally prepared for it to happen again. Even though it had been a long time since it happened last, nothing had changed about that. He simply liked being more cautious.
Of course, the pills that the crown prince of the Nine Heavens would get when he asked in the Temple of Medicine were of great quality. As soon as he took this one, the injury to his face healed at a pace visible to the naked eye. A few moments later, nothing could be seen of it.
Ye Yang heaved a sigh of relief. He knew that simply dealing with the injuries couldn’t erase whatever had happened. Even though the Son of Heaven had said that this wasn’t the case, he wasn’t sure if he believed it. Most likely, the other person was just too scared to admit the truth in front of another demon. But then, he couldn’t change that and could only deal with matters one after another.
Putting away the bronze mirror, Ye Yang gave a faint smile. “Alright, since that has been taken care of, let’s bring you back to the Nine Heavens. We can cut straight through the mountain range. I know the way pretty well.”
Jing He nodded and turned around but his gaze on the mountains was a little despairing. It had to be incredibly far …
Ye Yang waited for him to go, not sure how used the crown prince of the Nine Heavens was to traveling outside. After everything he had apparently gone through, he didn’t want to burden him too much by traveling too fast. Anyway, the dragon king was likely to rush over as soon as he heard the news so they should meet halfway. Just getting this person over the mountain range and into the Nine Heavens would be considered good. As a result, Ye Yang saw the Son of Heaven walk forward, apparently intending to climb this mountain range on foot.
Ye Yang raised his head, looking at the sky without knowing what to think. Why did it seem as if the two of them couldn’t communicate at all? Everything he said was met with an odd reaction. Had the Son of Heaven been tortured so badly that even the most common things were currently too much? It seemed like it.
No matter what the reason was, he still felt that he couldn’t just let the person walk ahead. If this were to happen, they might as well wait here for the dragon king to find them and have him carry the person back. Catching up to Jing He, he faintly cleared his throat. “Say …” He hesitated, not sure how to phrase his question.
Jing He looked up at him, having no idea what he might mean.
Ye Yang coughed. They really had no way to communicate, had they? “I mean, was your … spiritual energy impacted during what happened? Otherwise, we might be faster if we were to fly.”
Jing He blinked his eyes and finally lowered his head. Right …they could fly. He completely forgot because during those two millennia, he had never done so unless absolutely necessary and he never needed to even in the years since then. Still, he had truly made a fool out of himself in front of the demon king.
Realizing this, Jing He only nodded weakly before rising into the air, trying to pay no heed to the unfamiliar feeling. Anyway, he just wanted to see Qiu Ling and if this was faster, then he’d try to deal with it as best as he could.
