Jing He sighed when he thought of that. How beautiful it would be if he and Qiu Ling could go to the Spring of Fate together. He wouldn’t be afraid at all. Without him … he had to admit that he was a little scared.
Of course, he would do it and he didn’t mind sacrificing either but that place was special and he just couldn’t quite calm down whenever he thought of how he would go there. Having someone with him whom he trusted would certainly alleviate that fear but because of how special that place was, it was completely impossible.
Qiu Ling raised his brows, not having thought of that question. “Uh … I suppose it should be alright?” To be honest, he wasn’t sure where exactly that Spring of Fate was located and he didn’t dare to imagine what it looked like. Chances were it wouldn’t even look like the kind of natural spring you’d find in the immortal realms. Since it was something specially created by Tian’s people, it might actually look the part.
Well, no matter what, since everyone was technically allowed to go there and make a sacrifice to see into the future, mythical beasts probably wouldn’t be an exception. Of course, An Xin wouldn’t go there to make that trade for itself and was just supposed to act like a cute, hug-able mascot for his beloved but … he really didn’t see an issue.
Jing He didn’t seem all that convinced yet although his gaze toward An Xin suggested that he did want to take him along.
Qiu Ling slightly furrowed his brows, wondering how to convince him. “Well … it’s not like the Spring of Fate is a person, right? It can’t actually see you or even know that you are there unless you interact with it. So no matter how you look like, what you do, or who you take along when you go there, nobody will judge you.”
Jing He nodded, albeit with some hesitation. He wasn’t entirely sure what the Spring of Fate was either. It had sounded similar to a natural spring in that it was literally the source of the Da He which was an actual river. But at the same time, it consisted not of water but of the abilities of Tian’s people which was … a magical thing. Who knew what it could or couldn’t do?
He trusted in Qiu Ling’s judgment a lot since his fiance had seen more of the world than he had. Of course, he would have a better grasp on such things. But at the same time, he simply wasn’t as courageous as Qiu Ling so if there was a certain risk associated with something, then even though he trusted in what Qiu Ling said, he might not dare to do it.
Right now, he wasn’t sure if this was such a moment. Qiu Ling’s explanation made sense but … what would happen if he was wrong? He didn’t dare to think about that too much. Of course, he knew that he always questioned such things so there really shouldn’t be an issue.
Qiu Ling noticed that Jing He wasn’t sure what to do and gently shook his head. “You don’t have to take An Xin along if you’re worried. I don’t mind taking care of it. I just thought you might feel more comfortable with it around.”
Jing He nodded at once. “You’re right. I … I would certainly do. I am just afraid of what the consequences might be.”
Qiu Ling naturally understood this. “You don’t have to. It’ll … probably be alright with staying with me for a bit longer.” In fact, An Xin didn’t seem to mind him as much anymore. At first, the little flame heart had been trying to scramble away whenever it saw him or became defensive at once, apparently thinking that he would attack if it didn’t. By now though, it seemed to realize that by being where he was, it would be where Jing He would appear as well so it actually started to follow him around of its own volition.
He hadn’t thought too much about it at first but now, he was glad that things had developed this way. Jing He clearly cared a lot about An Xin so he might feel distressed if the two of them didn’t get along. Not to mention that in moments like this one, it made it a lot easier to help him out. At the very least, Jing He wouldn’t have to worry that his little mythical beast wouldn’t be well taken care of while he was away.
Jing He hesitated but finally stooped down and opened his arms.
An Xin’s tail swished from one side to the other and then it flung itself into his arms, purring. It had indeed warmed up to Qiu Ling but … this person was still its favorite.
Jing He carefully held onto the little flame beast, petting the soft and warm fur. The familiar touch lifted his mood even though he was still a little worried. Looking up at Qiu Ling, he got to his feet again. “I’ll take An Xin along.”
Qiu Ling hummed and stepped closer, giving Jing He a side hug and another kiss on the cheek. “Then I suppose you’ll be off?”
Jing He nodded but just like last time, he didn’t move and simply looked at his lover, thinking of how he didn’t know when they’d see each other again.
Qiu Ling couldn’t open the portal for him so he simply held him for a moment before stepping back. “No matter how long it takes until we see each other again, you’ll know where I am and you know that I will wait. I will also do my best to continue my work here. Maybe you’ll get to visit a miracle when you come back.” He raised his brows, his expression a little teasing.
Jing He’s cheeks flushed and he only nodded hurriedly before turning aside and opening the portal. This time, he successfully carried An Xin along as he returned to the High Heavens, once again having a bit of company for the next stage of his life as a fallen god.
