Jing He was able to feel that Tian was holding a lot of information back but he didn’t worry about it too much. A man like Tian naturally had a temper and would dislike explaining himself. It was good enough to have been told what he wanted from him and to be reassured that his child would not be killed simply because they carried the wrong soul. At most, there was only one more question that bothered him.
He hesitated for a while but, in the end, he couldn’t help but speak up again. “When this child is born … what will happen to them? Even if they are the reincarnation of your son, they will still be a new person. Do you … intend to take them from us?”
Yes, this was what he was most afraid of. He actually wasn’t sure how exactly Tian thought about his child. Examining his words carefully, he seemed to want this child reincarnated because it would allow Xing to wake up, not necessarily because he himself had strong feelings about his offspring. It felt odd but how could he understand the mind of the supreme sovereign? Maybe Tian simply expressed his feelings oddly. He didn’t dare to ponder this more deeply.
But no matter Tian’s stance on this, what about Xing? He refused to wake up until his child returned but this return … should it not be a return to him? Would he not want to hold this child he had lost in his arms? But then what about them? What about him and Qiu Ling? Would they not be allowed to keep the child they had had together?
Thinking of how Qiu Ling had told him about his family and his wishes for the future, Jing He felt depressed. He should be able to give Qiu Ling several children but it was impossible. Only one could be born and whether this child could be raised to adulthood had still been questionable thanks to the curse. Of course, if this child truly was the reincarnation of Tian’s son Yuan, then he didn’t think they’d have to worry about that. But if this child was taken from them and they could not have another one … then what about Qiu Ling’s wish for a family?
Tian glanced at him and then turned back to Xing. To be honest, he had not asked him closely at the time. It was enough for him to know that Yuan reincarnating was the only prerequisite to his lover opening his eyes and looking at him again. As for what happened after that … Tian hadn’t cared.
If Xing didn’t intend to take the child from their parents, then he was alright with that. Anyway, their child had never been fully formed and there was not a single memory to be elicited from that soul. It was like a newly born one so this could hardly be called their child now that it had been reincarnated into another body.
If Xing wanted it though … well, he was not above taking this child from their parents. What did he not dare to do? As long as it was not going against fate too much, there should be no drawback and with the sin of having killed their unborn child on the bloodline of the Heavenly Emperor, taking their child from them was not excessive either as long as he dissolved the curse early enough. Then, the child would be the way they repaid the loss of the child while the curse … well, at most, it could be considered a light punishment and seeing as he would have mended Jing He’s soul twice at that point and restored Qiu Ling’s sanity, basically saving the lives of these two people … he was owed this much.
Even though Tian said nothing, Jing He naturally saw his attitude. This child, he and Qiu Ling might not be able to keep it. He hung his head but even though he understood this, what could he do about it? The other person was the supreme sovereign, just as he had thought earlier, he could do whatever he wanted and nobody would be able to do anything about it. It seemed that if Tian truly intended to take the child, then their situation was hopeless.
Yes, there was no way to prevent this. They couldn’t influence whether their child’s soul would be newly formed or a reincarnated one. And Tian should be right about the likelihood of this being his son’s reincarnation. Then the only way to prevent him from taking the child would be to not have it in the first place but … wasn’t this the same as having the child and letting Tian take it away?
Jing He felt numb thinking about this. It seemed that he still might not be able to fulfill Qiu Ling’s wishes even if he recovered. In that case, was there even a point? Clearly, he was not worthy of that man’s affection and was only ruining his life. The wedding couldn’t be held as he wanted to, the large family he desired couldn’t be given to him, and now … maybe even the one child he could have had with him might be taken away. It seemed as if his whole existence was only meant to torture Qiu Ling and ensure that he couldn’t find happiness.
When Jing He fell quiet and didn’t speak up even after a few minutes, Tian finally turned back around to him. Seeing his state, he wanted to sigh again. He knew he shouldn’t have had this kind of conversation with a newly fallen god. That was just asking for trouble.
He pondered for a moment and finally stepped in front of Jing He. “That man loves you and he would certainly desire you to have his child. Can you truly square it with your conscience to not let your soul recover and give him what he wants? If you do … how much do you truly love him?”
