While Hua Lin Rong started to guard the body of his younger brother’s original incarnation, Xin Lan left the mortal realm and went to the Nine Heavens. He had to find out just who Xiang Yu’s husband had reincarnated as and he’d rather find out sooner than later.
In fact, it might not matter right now. It had only been two days since Xiang Yu descended for his trial so by now, he was only a child of two years. What could really happen in such a short amount of time? But even though that was the case, he didn’t want to waste any time.
Xin Lan sighed as he landed close to the capital city. Suddenly, he seemed to understand Qiu Ling’s deranged behavior before when the Son of Heaven went on his trial. If you loved the other person, it was difficult to let the matter rest. You wanted to know what was happening even if you could do nothing but watch from the sidelines.
Of course, this wasn’t to say that he was in love. No, at most, he was entertaining the possibility of being with Xiang Yu in the future. If he could really overcome his obsession and return to being a trueborn god, it didn’t seem impossible between them. But since this was the case, he had only more reason to be anxious.
What if this trial didn’t work out as intended? What if Xiang Yu met his husband’s reincarnation, fell in love again, and became even more obsessed with him? This was possible. While Tian might have sounded as if overcoming an obsession wasn’t all that difficult, it shouldn’t be for a fallen god. Even without his memories of his life as Xiang Yu, he would certainly be influenced by it. His feelings for Bai Mu and Xiao Li were proof of that.
Xin Lan felt unhappy thinking of the past. Xiang Yu’s insistence that matters between him and Xiao Li were fate had felt like a gut punch. He had loved Hua Lin Yu so much but even though he tried his best to impress him and treated him with the utmost care, some wild man just needed to appear, flaunt that face that was reminiscent of somebody else and could steal him away in a heartbeat. It just … didn’t seem fair.
Xin Lan’s eyes darkened as he walked through the streets. Sometimes, he felt as if everyone had gotten it wrong: It wasn’t that he was the only dragon who wasn’t affected by the curse. No, instead, it seemed like he was the only one who had gotten his personal curse which was always falling in love with those who were taken for eternity.
He had had many flings in the past but his heart had never been in it. Only when he met Jinde did he truly feel like he had met his destiny. Being with this person … it seemed like it would fulfill all his wishes. Unfortunately, that was a short-lived illusion. The first time Chun Yin appeared in his refinement workroom, he also realized that it was impossible.
It had taken him thousands of years to get over it and when he finally did and fell in love again … it was with the reincarnation of a fallen god who couldn’t let go of his late husband. A husband he himself had killed, mind you. Just where was this fair?
Xin Lan sighed to himself and tried not to dwell on it. Anyway, this didn’t have to end in a catastrophe. There was a chance Xiang Yu would indeed manage to go through this trial and slowly get over his obsession. Then, they had a shot.
His steps finally led him to the palace of fate. After greeting the guards outside, one of the scribes led him to the study of the Fate’s Scribe. Waiting in front of the door while the scribe announced him, he couldn’t help but think of how he had previously come here to find Xiang Yu once. It seemed that not much had changed. Somehow, he was always running around for this fallen god’s sake.
When Shun Tao heard that Xin Lan had come by, he felt perplexed. Could it be that this was about their crown prince’s disappearance?! It sure seemed like this should be the case if he bothered to come here. Thinking of that, he hurriedly had the scribe outside let Xin Lan in and then motioned at the chair opposite his desk so Xin Lan could sit down. “Senior Xin Lan, what brought you here?”
Xin Lan didn’t bother sitting down and directly got to the point instead. “I am looking for information on a person. I know he was originally a demon going by the name of Yan Xia but killed several thousand years ago. Now, he should be living in the mortal realm so he is probably human. Is there any way to find out who he is right now?”
Shun Tao stared at him in a daze. This … how was he supposed to know? “Well … I could look up a person’s scroll of fate but … without knowing who he is already, I literally have nothing on my hands to find the right scroll. Do you know anything at all about his current life?”
Xin Lan furrowed his brows. No, of course, he didn’t. If he did, would he need to be here? “I don’t but … maybe there is a way to find out.” He thought of another of the palaces in the Nine Heavens and narrowed his eyes. “If I could find out his lover, could you find him based on that?”
Shun Tao raised his brows. “Uh … I presume so?”
“Well, give me a moment then.” Without another word, Xin Lan turned around and left the Palace of Fate, instead making his way over to the palace of the God of Love. Since the soul stayed the same, then the true love of that person was likely to be found even if he only knew Yan Xia’s name. Anyway, he had nothing to lose if he just checked it out.
