Bai Fen watched as her husband’s expression changed and finally inclined her head. “So you see, it is not impossible for this to be true. You shouldn’t discount it because of your personal opinion of the people involved. Rather than that, assuming that both of them speak the truth, shouldn’t you focus on what we can do to help?”
Rong Su pursed his lips, not responding. He still had a hard time coming to terms with this being their current situation. How could his well-behaved son fall? It was absurd! He had warned him about that bastard from the dragon realm so often. How could he be in love with him? No, there had to be a different explanation.
Bai Fen furrowed her brows when her husband continued being stubborn. “Rong Su. How long do you want to keep this up? I didn’t cause an issue before because I always figured there was time. But now, things are already like this. Do you really want to risk it?
“You think about it: If it is true and Jing He is up there, slowly making his own decision, then what do you believe the end result will be? Will he quietly come back and let you arrange a partner for him or will he follow Longjun to the dragon realm to be with him?”
Rong Su raised his brows. “Naturally, he would come back.” His son was so well-behaved. How could the result be any different? “He would never give up his family just to be with that guy.”
Bai Fen shook her head. “He would. He absolutely would. Even if you can’t see it or rather … don’t want to see it, he loves him deeply. After all, you shouldn’t have forgotten that he stole the soul-engraving dagger for his sake and carved his own soul. Would he do that for somebody he didn’t love?”
She shook her head without waiting for his response, her brows still furrowed. “Of course not. And anyway, it is not like he would lose everyone. I am alright with this marriage. So is my brother. The only one who continues to argue about this is you.
“So if Jing He decides on being with Qiu Ling, then you will lose your son. And if you don’t get a grip soon and try to obstruct that wedding, then I will fly to the dragon realm the next morning and ask Qiu Ling whether he would mind his mother-in-law living with him. You take some time until everyone moves in here to consider whether you want to see such a future happen.” Once again, she didn’t give him time to respond. Instead, Bai Fen got to her feet and gave her husband a deep look. Then, she turned around and left the study, going back to her own palace.
Her relationship with Rong Su, it had suffered a lot over the years. Some things she could forgive, some things she had forced herself to push to the back of her mind, simply not thinking about them. Still, all of it had happened and maybe it was impossible to get over it. Jing He’s fall was just one more issue to add to all the issues they already had.
Bai Fen stopped on the road leading away from the palace and raised her head to the clouds. She wasn’t sure how the High Heavens looked so she couldn’t even begin to imagine how Jing He would live there. When Qiu Ling came over, she’d have to ask a lot of questions.
She retracted her gaze and shook her head at herself, continuing on her way to her own palace. Don’t even mention what the realm looked like, she had to admit that Rong Su had been right about one thing: Tian hated the Heavenly Family. They were at fault for Xing’s fall and even though the people from back then were long since dead, his hatred likely hadn’t diminished. Unless Jing He truly was the reincarnation of Tian’s son … wasn’t there a very real chance that he would suffer under the hands of that man?
She sighed, not sure what to think. She would have felt a lot better if Qiu Ling stayed in the High Heavens with Jing He but it seemed like that was impossible. Now, she could only hope for the best. Anyway, the worst had not yet happened. Her child was still alive. He might not be well but at least, he had survived and he would continue to do so going forward. Even if the road ahead was paved with more suffering, he could also make it. She had to trust in that.
Bai Fen closed her eyes and took a deep breath before quickening her steps to return to her palace. Finally reaching the place, she started to prepare everything she would need to live at her husband’s palace for a few weeks.
As soon as she moved in, she shouldn’t leave too often. If Rong Su and Qiu Ling had a real falling out this time, she wasn’t sure if it could still be repaired. In fact, not just their personal relationship but even the alliance might be in danger then. So, she shouldn’t leave them alone too much. As long as she was there, she could at least run some interference. That way, maybe there wouldn’t be a big blow-up.
She sighed just thinking of that time. She really wasn’t worried about Qiu Ling. Even though he could be a bit … odd at times, he was dependable when it counted. She had witnessed it herself. In this situation, he absolutely wouldn’t cause trouble and would instead be on his best behavior.
Her husband though … with that childishly stubborn temperament of his, he was even more likely to cause issues. Even if it wasn’t something big, there would at least be constant jabs at the dragon king. Whether Qiu Ling could bear it was one question. The other one was whether his advisers and the guards they brought along were able to tolerate this behavior. After all, no matter what she and her husband thought, the dragons adored this king of theirs.
