While the two of them chatted about their future plans, Leng Jin Yu reached the gate of the Nine Heaven’s capital city. Somehow, even after bidding goodbye to his prospects of becoming a part of the Palace of War for the sake of staying in the mortal realm with Jinde, he returned here quite a lot. But, well, that probably came with the territory of being related to the dragon king that closely.
He sighed faintly, greeted the guards at the gate, and was let in directly after stating his identity and business. Most likely, these people were slowly able to recognize him. In the future, he might just be waved in without saying anything.
He tried not to think about it too much, although the idea that he might one day be considered to be roughly the equivalent of the crown prince’s father-in-law was a bit mind-numbing. He hadn’t necessarily considered himself to be an average human when he was younger and his path in the cultivation world had proven as much but that didn’t mean he necessarily wanted this kind of identity. He’d have been happy to just ascend, find a lover, and live a quiet life. Now, things were like this.
He sighed and went to the Palace of War first, asking for the God of War. Thankfully, the person he wanted to see was inside so he went directly to the study. Seeing the God of War’s face, he could imagine just how rough the last two days had been.
Qiang Yan looked up when he saw him and sighed before faintly raising his brows. “You wouldn’t happen to have good news?”
Leng Jin Yu hesitated over whether to say anything now or wait until everyone was together. Looking at the way the God of War’s brows were lightly furrowed and thinking of how it must feel for their family member to be gone, he finally nodded though. “I do have news, although they’re not all good.”
This time, Qiang Yan’s expression changed majorly and he directly jumped to his feet. “What is it?!” If Leng Jin Yu brought news personally at this time, it should be about Jing He. And with what he said … well, there should be some hope?
Leng Jin Yu hummed. “Qiu Ling woke up and he found Jing He but … it is as we feared. He has fallen.”
Qiang Yan’s face which had lit up at the beginning immediately fell and he sunk back onto the chair. Rubbing his forehead, he wasn’t sure what to do. This news should be reported to his sister and brother-in-law immediately but … he could hardly take this himself. If Jing He had fallen and they knew where he was … didn’t this mean they had to go and kill him now? Just because he had once been the crown prince of the Nine Heavens, they couldn’t just ignore what he was now, could they?
He didn’t dare to think any further and just lowered his hand, looking at Leng Jin Yu blankly. “Thank you for bringing the news. I … will inform everyone and … think of what to do.”
Leng Jin Yu shook his head. “There is more and … I suppose it is good news. I’d suggest informing the Heavenly Emperor and Heavenly Empress first though so we can talk about it together. Also, I’d like to invite adviser An Bai along.”
Qiang Yan nodded, his brows furrowing again. He really wasn’t sure what this might be about. With Jing He basically gone, what good news could there be? Still, this was indeed something that had to be reported so he hurriedly send somebody to his sister’s palace, telling her to go to her husband’s place, and then also send someone to his brother-in-law to inform him that there was news so they would be coming over in a moment. “We should probably also inform Li Yin.” After all, if Jing He was a fallen god, then there were some laws to observe. They truly couldn’t ignore that.
Leng Jin Yu had nothing to say against that so he simply inclined his head.
Qiang Yan hummed, sent yet another messenger on their way, and then waved for Leng Jin Yu to follow him, bringing him to the Tower of Wisdom to personally get An Bai.
Seeing the two people appear in front of him, An Bai put down the book in his hands without question, bid goodbye to Yi Yun, and followed them to the Heavenly Emperor’s palace. When they arrived, so had Bai Fen. Her eyes were immediately glued to Leng Jin Yu but he only inclined his head toward her and then followed everyone inside.
This matter, the gist of it was easily explainable in a few sentences but the content was so explosive that he didn’t want to have to do this several times. It was best to let everyone come together, do it once, and let them ask all questions they had for everyone to hear.
Stepping inside, the Heavenly Emperor was sitting on his throne with a straight posture but his usually expressive face had turned rather wooden now. Clearly, he also feared what news could be brought over from the dragon realm. He didn’t think somebody would bother coming over if it was only that Qiu Ling had woken up so … this should be about his son. How could he not be nervous?
Bai Fen glanced at her husband but then continued standing next to her brother, reaching out to grab his arm. She didn’t know what was to come but she had a bad feeling about this. For one, Leng Jin Yu hadn’t said a single word to her so far, and two, her brother’s expression was a bit too dignified right now. He probably knew something already and it shouldn’t be good. Her son … even if he was still alive, it was probably just as they had feared. Thinking of that … she felt as if her heart would stop beating any moment.
