RMN C789 It’s a Trap

The other Elders exchanged glances while Yue Nuan fixed Chang Heng with a dark gaze. First calling his own sect and those of the others inferior, now insinuating that the Wu Yun Sect simply didn’t want to take the risk. If she still couldn’t see that this man was trying to stir up trouble, she should go and get her eyes checked.

Unfortunately, even though she knew and even though most of the others should also understand, this kind of thing couldn’t be ignored. It had been difficult enough to unite all the demonic sects for this endeavor. Now, many had lost elite disciples and were already angry enough. The earlier discussion had been a lot of ‘How did your Wu Yun Sect set all of this up?’, ‘We want an explanation!’, and ‘Who is going to compensate us for this loss? Are you?!’ It had been tough enough to calm them down. If Elder Chang now caused more issues, then she was afraid the whole plan might fall through.

Well, of course, most of it was already being realized as they spoke. For now, they just had to keep the righteous sects busy while Elder Feng prepared the last remaining parts before they could start. Of course, it was a problem that they had lost those disciples but if the plan worked … who cared? They could raise another generation of elites and they’d have a much easier time if they did so according to Elder Feng’s method.

If they didn’t have to share those benefits with the other sects, she’d actually be happy. She couldn’t allow them to retreat now though. They needed to keep on track for at least another day or two. Thus, it seemed she’d have to do as Elder Chang wanted her to. Oh, well, they’d be the ones to profit in the end so she’d let him have his moment.

Yue Nuan gave a sweet smile that seemed poisonous enough to everyone who knew her. Thankfully, her gaze was on Chang Heng and not directed at anyone else. Some Elders used the opportunity to faintly shift away from their previous position, putting some more distance between Elder Chang and themselves. If these two came to blows, it was always better not to be in the middle.

The only person who didn’t catch the other’s drift — or maybe he did and simply didn’t care — was Elder Gong from the Pi Shi Sect. Seeing Elder Yue finally change her expression, he couldn’t help but urge her. “Elder Yue, what now? Do you agree?” He wanted to go already! All these discussions weren’t just getting boring but completely getting on his nerves instead. He’d much rather go to the underground palace to confront the righteous sects already.

Yue Nuan finally retracted her gaze from Chang Heng and turned to the idiot sitting next to him who didn’t seem to realize that he was stepping into a carefully laid trap. “Elder Gong doesn’t need to urge me. Since you are also in favor of going there earlier rather than later, then I won’t say anything against it. I was simply trying to caution everyone a little to not underestimate the other side.

“Even if they might look like sitting ducks now that they are in our border region and have occupied a building we created ourselves and know better than them for certain, you also know that they fight just as dirty as we do. Nobody can be sure what will await us there. But … since you’re sure that we’ll be ready to face this without gaining further intelligence on their current situation, then we indeed shouldn’t waste time here.”

This time, Yue Nuan once again glanced at all the Elders who had gathered. “Every sect has lost disciples and not just any of them. I am sure you also want to avenge them. Even if there is no trap we’d walk into, there should be a somewhat strong force back in the underground palace since they were able to deal with all of our disciples in such a short time. Sure, there weren’t too many but they were our elite disciples so it seems likely that they aren’t simple. There should be at least a few tough nuts to crack.

“So, I suggest sending not just any disciples. Make sure they’re good at fighting and will be able to take those people down without also dying on us. I am sure nobody here wants to lose yet another batch of disciples. Of course …” She turned to look at Chang Heng again, that sweet smile returning. “Elder Chang doesn’t need to worry that the Wu Yun Sect will simply stand back and watch.

“We were the ones who invited you to join us in this endeavor to get rid of the righteous faction once and for all. We haven’t forgotten that goal and we won’t stop after a setback or two either. On the contrary, it’s time to double our efforts now. If I am right and the people currently in the border region are actually stronger than we had anticipated, then killing them will be a harsh blow to the other side. It’s an opportunity even if there is danger. Naturally, we will send disciples as well to deal with them.”

She didn’t give him the opportunity to answer and instead turned to Elder Gong. Since the guy had jumped out, why would she help him retreat now? “Elder Gong is right that our Wu Yun Sect’s Elder Shuai didn’t do well in his attack. I am also occupied with the last preparations before the big battle and can’t spare the time to go over. While there would be other Elders of our sect in the headquarters who could go, I admire Elder Gong’s enthusiasm. Since you want to, then you should lead this group. I don’t mind. After all, I’m not the one who called the Pi Shi Sect inferior.” Saying so, she glanced at Chang Heng again, her gaze meaningful.
