Long Shu Fen wasn’t as calm when it came to her sect and it showed. The closer they came, the more she slowed down and tended to look around as if wanting to find an escape route.
Zhi Guan glanced at her but didn’t say anything. He wasn’t all that clear on her situation and not that familiar with her overall. It didn’t seem right to ask too much about her matters. He should just help her with the task at hand and then stand by quietly to wait for what would happen. Of course, if she needed help, he’d be there to lend a hand.
Even though Long Shu Fen had slowed down somewhat, they still made their way to the Jian Chu Sect in a short amount of time. It couldn’t be helped. With the dreamscape, taking a long time just didn’t work. Not to mention that their situation was like this. Could she really delay knowing what was about to happen?
When they stepped out of the dreamscape this time around, there was no need for any explanations. They quietly moved the remaining bodies out of the dreamscape and then exchanged a glance.
Zhi Guan didn’t make any suggestions. Since this was Blue Butterfly’s sect, he trusted that she’d know best how to go about informing the Sect Master of their intentions. He’d just follow her lead.
Long Shu Fen looked at him and then turned in the direction of the center of the sect grounds. That was where the Sect Master’s palace stood and the Elders’ places weren’t far away. In other words: If they went over there, the whole sect would know. She didn’t want to call the Sect Master over here though and anyway, if he agreed, wouldn’t the Elders and disciples find out either way? Why make a big deal out of it?
She tried to convince herself and turned back to Zhi Guan. “Let’s go over directly. The Elders live close to the Sect Master’s palace so it’ll be convenient for him to call them over.”
Zhi Guan nodded and then waited until Blue Butterfly finally moved. Obviously, she was still very reluctant to go forward with this.
As they walked, he couldn’t help but glance at her again. Even though they weren’t that close, they had still spent some time together and Blue Butterfly had helped his third junior martial brother a lot. Looking at it that way, he owed her some help, no matter how small it might be. “Would senior prefer it if I talked to the Sect Master?” He couldn’t be sure of the issue but it seemed like the upcoming talk should be the reason for how she was acting. In that case, if there was someone else taking the lead, maybe it would help.
Long Shu Fen looked up and smiled wryly, shaking her head. “No, it’s alright. Don’t think too much.” She actually felt sorry that she had acted so off that he noticed but there was nothing she could do about that now. “To be honest … there might be no reason to feel on edge about this. It’s just that … the people in the sect are somewhat afraid of me. Because of this …” She hesitated how to say it. There was so much backstory to her current situation in the sect and Zhi Guan shouldn’t be familiar with most of it.
Despite her concerns, Zhi Guan nodded. “The position of being the guardian sounds lofty but it also seems to mean being chained down in the sect. There should be some hard feelings.” While he didn’t know how it was to have an ability and hadn’t been there when all those things happened, he felt for her when it came to being unable to leave the sect. Just imagining himself in that situation … he would naturally be dissatisfied.
Of course, apart from his own feelings, there was also everything he had heard after they discovered Luo Lin’s ability. Saying that the situation of the four guardians was complicated would be an understatement based on that. In fact, it was incredibly awkward.
On the one hand, they were supposedly heroes but then, who actually knew their names or appearances or was aware of what they could do? On the other hand, they were confined to a specific place in their sects but then, it seemed like the Sect Masters still consulted them on some decisions so it wasn’t right to say that they had no status either. Of course, this might not be true for all of the sects either.
Well, no matter the reason, Blue Butterfly having complicated feelings about this wasn’t too surprising. But if she didn’t want him to act, then he wouldn’t do it. She knew the Jian Chu Sect’s Sect Master and Elders best anyway so she should be able to deal with them better than he could.
Long Shu Fen saw him nod and figured there wasn’t much to say after all. “Well, it’s always easier to stay away. There might be some … arguments after I come out, especially when they know that I’ve sneaked outside without them knowing.”
In fact, there were arrays in the Jian Chu Sect that should keep her from doing so but … well, it was futile to try and keep someone with her ability inside the sect. Of course, part of that was because she had had some help. Back then, the Li Ren Sect had helped to design those arrays but Shang Qiang had secretly messed with them, causing them to not be able to affect her dreamscape at all.
It was only thanks to this that she could still go out without issue. And, frankly, she didn’t want to expose this secret. After all, what if they strengthened them further after this battle had ended? But then, nobody could tell who would and who wouldn’t return, and … maybe even if many did, she would simply refuse to return to this place and find a new home elsewhere. It might not be impossible. Anyway, the new generation seemed to be pretty good.
