“To the gate?” Shen Lei faintly raised his brows. They could make it to the Jian Chu Sect in no time but Luo Lin didn’t seem all that familiar with the place so finding a suitable place to stop might be an issue. The sect gates might be the easiest to navigate to as this was where everyone who visited would arrive and likely spend a few minutes while their identity was being checked. Even though Luo Lin had only been there twice, he should remember the gates.
Luo Lin nodded. “Yes, after that … we’ll have to see how we can get to Senior Blue Butterfly. The reinforcements first senior martial brothers wants aside, speaking to her first should be for the best.”
The two of them moved first, indeed making their way to the spot right in front of the Jian Chu Sect’s gates before they discussed further.
“What now?” In this situation, Luo Lin naturally relied on his fiance. It seemed that he was more familiar with the Jian Chu Sect so he should have an idea where to go.
Shen Lei hummed and leaned closer, motioning at one of the paths leading further inward. “Let’s go that way. I can’t be sure where she is but it should be further away from the places that are usually used by the disciples and Elders. From what I know of the Jian Chu Sect, some possible spots lie in that direction.” Of course, they would still have to search but … this was the best he could do.
Luo Lin nodded and the two of them moved forward. After their previous tests and the experiences they had over these days, things worked out well. They didn’t need to discuss much either. A few simple gestures or maybe a word or two were enough for them to focus on the same place and move there. Unfortunately, even with the tacit understanding that was starting to form, it still wasn’t easy to find the sect’s guardian.
Luo Lin couldn’t help but sigh. “Do you think she can feel another dreamscape close by?” If she did, Senior Blue Butterfly would likely come out. She had that type of personality.
“It sure would make our life easier if she could.” Shen Lei had no idea though. They knew way too little about abilities in general and even though they had explored this copied ability relatively well, it was only a partial copy, after all. What Luo Lin could do and what Senior Blue Butterfly could do might be very different from each other.
Luo Lin nodded and then looked up at his fiance. “Then where to now?”
Shen Lei glanced around and pointed at another spot. “Further in that direction.” Anyway, they could only check stretch by stretch. Thankfully, they could travel as far as they could see in the blink of an eye so getting around didn’t take long. They only wasted a little time by going in a wrong direction once or twice.
With Shen Lei having picked out a few likely places from the beginning, they indeed didn’t go wrong often. After two attempts, they finally found a direction where they didn’t meet anyone and not even buildings could be seen any longer. It seemed that they were on the right path.
They traveled further ahead, switching from side to side with every jump they made, and their surroundings grew even more hidden. Large trees grew everywhere and no discernible path could be made out between them. Despite that, the spiritual energy here was still high. In fact, it could be called abundant. There was no way that this wasn’t still part of the sect grounds. Especially since they hadn’t yet passed the boundary protecting the Jian Chu Sect.
“She should be close by.” Shen Lei squeezed his fiance’s hand, reassuring him. Yes, among all the places they had checked out, this one seemed the most likely. Plus, even though the sect grounds for the four great righteous sects were big, they weren’t so big that you couldn’t find a special place somewhere inside either. Senior Blue Butterfly had to be somewhere so as long as they continued to look around, they’d find her.
Luo Lin wasn’t actually that worried but he still nodded. Anyway, this was a small way to help everyone else. The effort they had to expand for it couldn’t compare to the energy needed to fight either. So really, what was there to complain about?
They continued moving forward and finally stumbled upon the person they had been looking for. Even though they had been in contact with the four guardians, it wasn’t like they had stepped into these secret places before and seen how the guardians lived in their sects. Now that they stumbled on what was apparently Blue Butterfly’s … place of living, they still couldn’t tell if this was normal or simply her way of doing things.
In front of them was a big lake. Lush trees and shrubs surrounded it on all sides just like they had grown in the area they passed before. There still wasn’t any path leading anywhere, whether it was around the lake or to the small isle in the middle.
This isle was obviously where Blue Butterfly was supposed to be: A pavilion stood in the middle of it with a few decorations all around. There was a small birdhouse made of stone, a pair of mismatched guardian beast statues, a spot filled with bamboo peeking out from behind, and — probably the most astonishing thing — a big hole right outside the pavilion with dirt piled up right next to it as if someone had dug around for something underground and never bothered to clean up the resulting mess afterward. In short, it was incredibly chaotic but it somehow fit with the impression they had gotten from Blue Butterfly so far.
The couple exchanged a look and Luo Lin finally cleared his throat. “Um, excuse me? Senior Blue Butterfly?”
There was the sound of clothes rustling and then, the head of the person they had been unable to see emerged from the hole in the ground, a few streaks of dirt clearly visible on her face.
